Tiger Racing gets new Nitrous system
« on: December 04, 2003, 08:59:00 AM »
Just because everyone is always asking me what am I doing this winter.

To start with, we're changing the Nitrous delivery system around a bit.

Hmmm, new Nitrous lines and new solenoids.

We are looking for about 300hp on the juice once we're done.  Had 287hp before we started.

I'll keep you updated.

Fogger in my helmet.  Yea, I like that idea, fogger inside my helmet.  Of course I'll have to spit on my faceplate so it doesn't fog up while doing that right?

Here is your new view of me.  Get used to it.

Of course I had to use stop action high speed 50,000 fps rotating polygon mirror camera's to get these shots, but they're all worth it don't you think?

Here is someone who has a fogger in his helmet.

After Lee practiced on his training wheels, we let him go down the track.  I thnk he went something like 250mph or something like that.

Yea, a fogger in my helmet.  I like that.

You have a stout motor there my friend.  Nothing needed to change downstairs.  I have pretty much everything.  My cousin Mike Caputo is making some changes for next seasons tune-up and it requires some changes in the N2O system.  I run a different tune-up than the 1/4 mile guys.  The 1/4 mile tune-up does not do well at Maxton, at least for me.  Being on the spray with a high comp 1397 kit for so long (15-18 sec.)is a different tune-up all together.  I wiiiillllll tell you, I'm adding another bottle. to maintain bottle pressure for so long.  Anyway, no secrets today, Mike is keeping pretty closed lip on this one and I have been sworn (using standard blood brother ritual, ie. cutting wrist and holding them together, yada, yada.)to absolute secrecy.

Sorry

Just got back from the shop.  Mounted the bung in the pipe for the Digital A/F Gauge/switch and mounted the second bottle holder.  I stuck a bottle in it just to see what it looks like.

SWEET!

When I go to Maxton, I'll have to mount my chromes bottles of course.

I had a bung welded in my titanium exhaust, tried welding steel bung to at first    had to have
bung fabricated of titanium because of diff. expansion rates..

THAT SETUP SHOULD BE ILLEGAL
IT IS UNDER PRESSURE AND A HIGHSPEED SLIDE WILL WND UP WEARING THROUGH THE BOTTLE AND CAUSE AN EXPLOSION

Guy... what are you using to monitor the A/F?
Halmeter?  or FJO wideband?

The sniffer of course while on the Dyno, but for next year, I'm installing a A/F digital display meter/cutoff switch from DynoTune.  I really like the Digital N2O gauge from them.

Oh.. Ive seen and used the FJO 9 http://www.fjoracing.com/ ) for a short time.  Its pretty damn cool.  And its dead on with the DynoJet 250 A/F meter.
Its about $750.. but its a "real world, real time" tuning tool.  Its not limited to motorcycle applications either.

Dennis,

Since N2O is a an oxidizer and not a flammable, and the bottle would have to be rubbing on the cement a very, very, very long way before it would even begin to wear a spot on a steel bottle like that (let alone a hole), I find it very, very, very unlikely that an explosion would occur.  You may see or hear a hissing noise as the pressure is released momentarily and quickly.  But when they tell me it's illegal, I'll worry about it then.

The bottle is DOT approved and no matter where it is mounted outside the frame rails, it has the opportunity to rub on the ground .  But if the bike were to be skidding and perfectly balanced on it's hind quaters for that length of time so that it could rub the ground, the bottle would do nothing harmful even if the top valve happened to be knocked off.

I would be more worried about my gas tank breaking open and fuel going every which way before I would worry about those bottles.

But nice try you turbo guy you.

Slammed,

Is that your best guess or do you have aerodynamic slip stream flow charting information at your fingertips?  SO WHAT!

When I need to get another 2-5mph somewhere, I'll look at that, until then, who cares.  More Juice baby!

But thanks for thinking of me.

OK Dennis, point taken, don't fall down and you love turbo's.

Here is a new goodie that Santa brought early.  A new Carbon Fiber Cut Tank from Quentin Robles.  It's going to make a great Street Tank.  I'll tell you more about the tank in a later article.

Notice the 01 tank behind it and you can see how low you will be behind this one.

More later.

not sure about the seam.  I think it is an optical illusion and the angle I took the pic.  I'll have to look at it again when I get back to the shop.  I just figured I would have to make the tank cut out myself.  No big deal, but your right, no mount holes or cutout, Hmmmm.

Sorry I took the site down for a while last night.

PROBLEM IS NOT THAT PART OF THE TANKS
PROBLEMS IN FRONT WHERE YOUR CHIN GOES
HARD TO GET TOTALLY OUT OF THE WIND WITHOUT CHOKING
THEN IF YA DO THE AIR DRAGS ON YOUR BACK RATHER THAN SKIPPIN OFF YOUR HELMET TO THE HUMP
THE SALT TELLS YA WHATS DRAGGIN AND WHATS NOT FOR SURE
CAUSE YOU'LL STOP PULLIN AND START SPINNING
