I talked to one of the people from NASA-TX this morning and they're going to be running 2 classes of rules.

1st will be the same "street class" that was run last year with the same rules and timing criteria. This will allow those that don't qualify for the other rules to run.

2nd will be similar to Maxton type rules with the intent that this will be an official record event. These will be more stringent than those in the previous class.

Need all the info.  If I can drive 12 hours to Maxton, another 6-9 won't kill me.

Where is this place?
How do we join?
What is this place like?
Hotel situation?

Stuff like that.

Guy, it would be a pleasure to see you and yours down here for this event. Goliad is about 3 hours south of Houston. You can call Shannon at 281-802-9863 and she will give you all the info that you need.

The airport itself is actually an operating airport (excellent condition) that was previously used by the military for touch & go practice back in the day.

Goliad has a population of around 2-3 thousand and is about as friendly of a place as you'll find in Texas. The Chamber of Commerce is having a dinner for the racers on the Friday before the race.

Hotels, small mom and pop kinda places. The "Antlers Inn" isn't quite the Hilton, but it's a nice place all the same. They have a fenced in area at the airport that is guarded by the local PD on the airport property where you can overnight your trailer too.

Give Shannon a buzz and let me know if you're going to make it down here. I  might be cooking some fajitas, chicken, ribs and maybe a cabrito too...depending what the schedule looks like for the weekend.

UT cooking, I'm there.  Just checked all the schedules, that's a free weekend for me.  It's in between Prostar, ECTA and our local track events.

I'll be there.  Houston is 18 hours for me, so it's 21 total.  I have a friend in Houston, I'll have to stop by and say hey to, and then it's on to Goliad.

I'm submitting a vacation request right now for my work to get a few days to travel back and forth.

Your website is awesome, I'll call and get room info a little later.

.5 mile shutdown doesn't sound that bad...

Figure some dragstrips probably don't have much more than a 1/3-1/2 mile shutdown area and Shootout bikes running 185 don't have any probs. Even if you went 250, you should be able to stop in a 1/2 mile(might need good brakes though).

Where we run at has turn arounds exactly one every half mile. At 225 there was no way I was making the first turn around.

I couldnt even imagine trying to do it at 250.

If anyone hasn't checked the Texas Mile website lately, they have made some rule changes. Previously they allowed riding gear such as Joe Rocket/Aerostitch equipment.  They also now require a steering dampener for above 140mph.

SAfety REQUIREMENTS
STREET CLASS MOTORCYCLES:
STREET CLASS MOTORCYCLES: Safety is paramount. Minimum of helmet, gloves and shoes is required at all times when operating a motorcycle (i.e., in the pit areas). The following apparel must be worn at all times when riding on the active course, hot pit lanes, or other designated areas.
1. Leather motorcycle gear. 1-piece or 2-piece suits
must be worn. Must be zipped up at all times while on the racetrack or riding in the hot pit area.
2. Kevlar™ panels can only be used for expansion flexibility (arms and legs) and not to replace other large areas of leather.
3. Sparking knee pucks are not allowed.
4. Back protectors consisting of an impact resistant material and padding extending from the shoulder area to below the waist are mandatory for all riders.
5. Leather gloves with no holes or other openings except breathing pinholes.
6. Leather boots of sufficient height to overlap the trouser leg all times and in no case less than eight (8) inches.
7. Helmets certified by the Snell Memorial Foundation and bearing 1995 (or later) approval stickers; or have the British Standards Institute approval sticker BSI 6658-A. All helmets must be full coverage (no open-faced helmets). Helmets, in the judgment of the Tech Inspector, must be in sound condition,
including shell, liner and strap.
8. All riders who crash in a race must have their helmet and all safety apparel (leathers, boots, gloves and back protector) re-inspected by a designated race official before participating in any further races. Helmets deemed to be unsafe might be rendered useless.
9. Shields or goggles of shatterproof nature and in sound condition.
10. Tear-offs are not allowed.
11. Texas High Speed Shoot Out prohibits hydration devices such as camel backs during race events.
12. Steering Damper for speeds of 140+
