gearing question???

whats better to run 16/40 or 16/41 sprockets?what will give me a better 1/4 time and overall performance?

I doubt you will be able to tell the difference between the 2 they are so close.    Depends on your riding style I know a guy running  18/39 stock wheelbase  all motor running 9.10-9.20 consistant.   I liked the 16/40 or 41 setup,   didnt change my times when I went from the 40 to the 41.

I'm running a 16/40 combo on my busa, but i've got a Michelin pilot race  ,180mm tire. what gear would anyone suggest I use? A 16/42?

At 16/42 you will have to shift to 5th around 1000ft..  Might not be good...
