Latest from Maxton!  From TJ's family!

"TJ is back in school today June 2nd, He has 4 breaks in his right
foot, no surgery scheduled at this time, a boxers fracture in his
left hand, some abrasions to his right forearm similar to a very
serious indian sunburn, the leathers did not wear through on his arm
they just twisted with great vengence. His back is speckled with
small bruises and burned spots from the heat of the leathers , very
superficial, and a spot of road rash on his left side above his hip
where the leathers wore through about 1.5 inches by 3 inches , if he
wasn't so bony it wouldn't have been so bad. The good news is the
safety gear performed well and was more than adequate, I can't think
of anything I would do different in that regard. He went through the
traps at 160 and walked himself to the ambulance. His injuries are
very minor all things considered and forthat we are very thankful. I
also want to thank the SNART Team for for looking out for Beth while
we tended to T.J. (even if they got the cops called and tried to
turn her into an outlaw) I'll update more later.

Overall, the bike made 12 runs in 24 hours, under three (3) different riders. Can you do that at El Mirage or Bonneville?

The big question is: Can you make this many runs and still have time to properly inspect your bike for safety items to make sure your next pass is as safe as your last? (and 12 is not high for maxton, i worry more about the ones making 20-30 runs.. or anyone not checking the same things after each run that they would after a 50, 100 or 500 mile normal ride). I've ridden bikes that have needed quite a bit of attention after each run and some that have needed virtually no work after the entire meet.. as I'm sure you have SG. You are a voice many seem to listen to due to your time in the seat and multitude of records.  I would love to see you address this issue in some of your write ups or posts,  even if it's as simple as fluid levels, tire pressures, fastener tightness and gear condition(sometimes it's the simple things that we overlook and end up getting us in trouble).

The KNOW Part is the 100% truth! People that ride Harleys "Know" that they must spend a lot of time and money on their bikes just for 1 ride and you see them working on their bikes "ALL" of the time. The reliability of our bikes brings our guard down which is very Dangerous and makes me even more careful!

When you have put every nut and bolt on the bike and can remember what they all look like you can immediately know if anything has changed which is my main advantage!

Congrats to Thomas for the 182 record on the 10R, I would have expected nothing less as he has learned alot in the past year.

Just too bad Dick, ops I mean Nick, Jennett is a back-stabbing moocher and screwed me over like no friend would ever do!  I wouldn't trust that ass any further than he can be thrown.  He is a user and F'ed over a friend.  EX-friend.

 Sorry the rant.

Hey TJ,

Glad to hear your back to school, now what have we learned from this?

Your protective gear saved you!  You scared the hell out of us son! Damn glad to hear your OK.  Just wished I had a camera on that one, whew!!!  There's no other word for it, Ass-over-bandbox at 170mph+ and you walk to the ambulance.  You are my hero.

Guy, Sad to say that I really believe that you would have gone 225 if you had the weather we were having in DC on Saturday (it was in the 70's and the wind was even going the right way!) Congrats again

one of Land Speed Racing's newest stars - then took only one (1) full power pass to boost the bike to it's best speed of the meet: 182.2 MPH

I believe there's a couple rather broad lines between stardom, skill and carelessness. Getting on a bike that is unkown to you(especially a new model unproven bike), worked on by a mechanic that is unknown to you(no offense to the mechanic, this is not refering to there ability or craftsmenship, simply the riders knowledge of such) and ridden by a rider that's only experience is going in a straight line without prior mishaps that may have been learned knowledge of pulling out of a situation should it arise and twisting the throttle wide slap open on run one with not so much as a feeling of whether the brakes are worth a shit is not the smartest thing to do in my opinion.
This is just my opinion(so I thought I'd share it) and i don't care if it's my bike built by me and ridden by me, I'm going to take it slow and see what things are going to do so I get a good feel for the bike should something out of the ordinary arise at any given speed... this is part of our data collection and stability is logged in our records the same as plug reads or tire pressures. Ask Brooks how long it took me to get comfortable enough to run his busa to it's current ability? Safety first.. speed will come. It just doens't work the other way around for very long.

My Last post on the subject are the words from the man himself, TJ!

"Hey guys, this is TJ, i just joined this group and as i was reading
all the messages i just wanted to say thanks to everybody that was
concerned, to those that visited me in the hospital and to everyone
that pitched in at the track.  Just to let you know im in 2 casts
now,
one on my hand that will be on for 4 weeks and one on my leg for 6 to
8 weeks, which means i should be able to race at the september meet,
although not on the busa.
I also saw that a lot of people were wondering about gloves and
leathers and whatnot.  All of it did its job and i wouldnt be here
typing id it hadn't.  The leathers were as about as plain of a set as
you can get, but they only rubbed through in one spot, but that was
mainly due to my boniness.  As for gloves, they were a fairly nice
set
of Teknic racing gloves and they did great.  One of my hands is
broken, but thats nothing any pair of gloves could have fixed.
Overall, considering i fell off at over 160, i am in great condition
and all the gear did its work.  I dont think that anything could have
helped me turn out any better, but i know i could be a lot worse
-TJ"
