Dennis - 250 rwhp
« on: May 12, 2004, 11:23:56 AM »
This question can probably only be answered by a few...

Can a 1464cc make 250 rwhp and still be streetable, ie run on pump gas??

I'm curious if this is an obtainable goal or not... :?

My 1550 made 239 RWHP ( Din.. problaby around 232 SAE ) with Yosh cams.

250 on a smaller engine would be though unless you are gfoing wild on the cams... and thats where the street parts comes into play... really wanna go that far ?
Better be prpared to pay....

Big cams, HEAVY springs, Bored trottle bodies, BIG valve hears, lots of compression.....

Can you say new starter motor and gears ?

:)
I dont know what I am talking about but I do know that I am right :)

yea I may end up going just with 385 / 360 and see what I end up with...

I've already beefed up the starter gear etc just need to find a tiny little 12v batt to run in series...

thanks for the reply!

250 will be pushin it for a 1464. I would say ~230rwhp for a pump gas motor, that should be torn down every season. You will need 2 batteries too.

it will take a hell of a motor to make that power.  Plan on sinkin some big bucks in the head and bottom end.      Sad part about it is you could snap a cam chain or "some other bottom end issue   "  and its all junk..   10 grand down the tubes.
a 250 hp motor would be a blast to ride though

Oh yea..  almost forgot.    a 250 hp engine on the street will probably be more hassle than fun on the street.

turbo... cheaper, more power, more reliability, and more fun.  :D

A good engine builder can make it happen - talk to user 396. Joe had his engine done by Bob Writh, and his 1397 is making 230+

230hp! That's a lot of "ponies" for a 1397 !  Is it daily driver or track use only?

thanks guys for all the input. I think I'm gonna go with mild cams and just see where I end up... I can always add spray though...

as far as the turbo, I just don't have the patience in order to get one.

takes to long to get answers to questions
availability
lead times
lack of comitement to delivery dates
etc

After all of the headaches I've read about it it left me with a sour taste to turbo's. I 'm one of those get it done yesterday guys... but I will admit that once you get a turbo delivered and everything is tunned in right they're a blast!

NO TURBOS ARE ALOT MORE RELIABLE
I MEAN ALOT
230 ON A 1390 IS NOT ON PUMP GAS
AND NOT A DAILY DRIVER
I'D SAY 220 RANGE WITHOUT STUFFING IT
COMPRESSION LIKES TO POUND BEARINGS TO DEATH
SORRY ABOUT YOUR MISINFORMATION ABOUT TURBOS
AND MOTORS
DO SEARCHES AND READ UP ON ALL COMBOS ON HERE

My 1397 is the one making the 230 and then some. No it is not on pump gas. No it would not be considerd a daily driver. When I get it on a dyno jet I will post the numbers so everyone can compare apples to apples. Right now the numbers are not from a dyno jet so comparing them is useless. I now on a DJ they will be higher. This is not your everyday 1397 and wish some were a little closer to California so you could see it!
