TIRE ? - LAND SPEED - 180 , 190 OR 200
« on: July 27, 2004, 05:10:51 PM »
I just don't have any idea

which size is considered "best" for 230-250ish MPH

a 200 would have a bigger contact patch - but it would also weigh more and have atendancy to "grow" more

I did 232mph with a 200

TIA

3B, actually weight is NOT good.  It is one of the reasons why they shave the tires to avoid the weight which also can cause chunking

I fully recommend you guys check out the Pirelli 190/55/ZR17 Super Dragon Corsa in the SC2 compound.  I have been doing a lot of reseach and testing.  It's sticky, stable and has a 79.5" circumference.  I have not shaved any of them yet, but I have put over 30  200+ passes on asphault, no chunking either.  Metzler /Pirelli has also invited me to their factory for additional talks re: LSR requirements and possible product configurations in compound, 0degree belting adhesion and tread pattern designs for new products.  I'll keep you posted on my results.

Scott, since the 12 has a little softer hit from the power off the line and maybe a little larger hit when it comes into the power, do you think 1 tire should meet most of our needs? I would think that a Busa would be a little harder (Overall) on a tire and what ever works on the Busa should be better on the 12. What do you think?

you are right Guy. i was speaking in generalities. what I had intended was wheel rotating mass, not tire rotating mass. thanks for clarifying. great article by the way. hope this leads us into a manufacturer or two creating something for us.
