Flat spot in low RPM's
« on: August 26, 2004, 06:09:42 PM »
I wondered if someone could help me figure this out. i'm getting a flat spot between 2,500-3,000 rpm. i have a 2000 busa with a pc2. i tried disconnecting the pc2..no change.i put the hindle race system map in from the pc website and still no change. i bumped that map up 2 bars on the lowend and still nothing. i have the brock davidson hindle but didnt purchase it fom him so no help from them on getting the track map. so i had the original purchaser get the map for me and still nothing changed. i ran fuel injector cleaner through a couple tankfulls and tried higher octane fuel, and adjusted my TPS a couple months before this started. when it happens theres no drop in rpm's it just feels like lightly hitting the brakes. this happen to anyone else or can anyone give me an idea whats going on? thanks, Kenny

Borrow a TRE and try it.  If it removes your flat spot, get one of your own.

I forgot to mention it does'nt matter what gear i'm in. mainly noticeable when in 1st or 2nd and powering out of a low speed curve. the TRE only comes into play when youre in 6th and makes the bike think its in 5th still and not retarding the timing right?

Not exactly, it tricks the ECU into thinking the bike is in 5th gear all the time.  This does away with the top speed limiter and it also does away with the timing retardation in the 1st three gears.  (actually, lack of advance in the first three gears, same end result)

2000 busa here as well.

Had same flat spot as yours, TRE takes care of that problem 8)
Go ahead ho, call the po-po.
It takes them 8 minutes to get here,
which gives me 7 minutes to wip your ass.

Do it.  You won't be sorry.  Cured all my low end stumble woes.  Ivan's Smart TRE is the way to go.  No re-mapping required.

Hmmm, very interesting. I have a 2000, and it has that same flat spot at around 2500 rpm. I am running a Techlusion FI controller, but I thought the flat spot was maybe due to the fact I gutted my airbox and removed the flapper valve? (small box mod) I may have to try this TRE mod.

yeah i talked to my friend that has the TRE and were gonna put it on my bike this weekend. he said theres another TRE out from another company thats switchable. I read in several posts where a TRE will actually hurt the performance at the dragstrip. so if this is the cure i'll look into the switchable TRE. i still think this is just a band-aid on a deeper problem though. been fine for 26,000 miles and it decides to start doing this. and gerald i also have the airbox mod per brocks instructions and it was still fine at te time.
