big cc motor question
« on: October 28, 2004, 07:44:53 AM »
I am considering building a big cc motor. Is it as easy as buying over sized pistons and having the cylinders boared? Also how much power will this give me? What cams should I look into?

If it is just a simple big bore kit you can do it yourself if you have any mechanical skills and the proper tools.  Definitely send out your cylinders to a quality machine shop that will size your new pistons and set the ring gap to the new bore size.  They should also provide something similar to the factory finish to the cylinder walls.  If you are putting in oversize valves and/or a stroker kit then I would say you should go see a pro builder.

I was considering just boaring it out to 1396 or what ever it is

1397...It's a good powerful motor that's fun to ride, and it has more power than most bikes with the exception of turbos...It's very reliable...You put it in, ride, drag race, or do whatever!!!  There's no going back in it (as least for mine that was built by Johnnycheese).  If you go with the 13:1, it'll be hard to start when it's hot, but it will start!!! ... :thumb:  :thumb:

It is even easier than buying pistons and finding someone to bore your block. You can just send us your stock block and get a ready to install assembly back at you without having to wait for machine time.

There are many builders on this site.  I'd have it professionally done..just so that you will have piece of mind that it is done right.

Cheese is right on point here.  They are fairly simple if you have done them a time or two, but one little mistake and you will cost yourself an entire motor.  It has happened to several board members, and some coustomers that have brought us motors in buckets.

You are the baddest mother fucker in the land if you can make that one happen.

Our 1397 are making over 230, but that is a boast few can make.

HOLY SH$T 1363 stock stroke with 235! WOW Not knocking you but I would have to see that to believe it! Matt and Eric at Dragbike Direct did my motor and it doesn't make that kind of power but it runs #'s like it makes that kind of power! Please tell me how you're getting 235 out of a 1363, so I can build one of those!

i agree with Matt, not because he did my motor but because i've been around this game a long time and never heard such a thing! I'll take that bet about run one of your boys! Hell let's get it together! I would have to see it to believe it! you gonna have to take my money to prove me wrong and when you put your hand out it better be with a wrench to ask me to help you tear it down to see proof that it's a 1363 and believe me i'll be there with the calipers!

I wouldn't even waste your time glen.  This race will never happen.  People have been boasting similar hp for a while, but no one is willing to step up and prove it.  A well built flat top 1363 will make 220 on MRXO1  Built by us, Lee, bob or any other reputable engine builder.  and be down 4 ftlbs of torque.  That is why not to many people build them for all motor street bikes anymore.

Glens MPH is unheard of for a 1397.  I will put my money an a 1363 never coming around it!!!

Screws,

Let me get this right....

Your 84mm motors make 210 rwhp...

And your 83mm motors make 235 rwhp.....???

Kind of tough to swallow....

Can you back it up or prove it????

last i checked
a 1300 had 81 mm bore
"we can do a 210+ 1300 on pump for 3000$"
ring a bell...scroll up
as i said that was an exceptional motor
we didnt predict that much power...like i said
it took allot on dyno(at lee's) to get the power
and sorry it was on gas-gas (not spraying)

Screws,

My bad on the 84mm.

The 230+hp from an 83mm motor is still tough to believe, esp if it's a streetbike.

on lee's 20 horsepower happy dyno! That says it all! I'm on the phone with Steve Jester right now and he says if that bike makes 232 rwhp it should run 169 in this weather with 195 pound rider on it on motor! He says bet that! I believe you now though! It won't make no where near that type of power on any other Dyno! You're realistcally looking at around 212 horsepower

True Steve, A customer of ours said it best though last year.  When you go to Sears for a push mower you can buy the 3.5hp, 5hp, 6.5hp or 8.5hp mower.  How you mow your lawn when you get home is up to you.

Easy guys, I have the nicest lawn in the neighborhood.  I bought the house that way, and my lawn care service keeps it up.  No 4 wheelers on my lawn.  I however have no problem riding through Wal-mart.

If that 1363 did that, why are we messing with Cranks in a 84/85 or big block? Just use that 1363, just the lower the compression some and pour alot more gas and hello shootout, here we come. I can't see that, plus I'm here in NC and Lee's has been known to have a happy dyno. He's a helluva tuner but not 230 nothing from that size motor. Not even 220, unless you put a little man down at the bottom. Take that bike to the Birdman(RC's) in Laurinburg and you'll get your real number.

This is My buddy´s (Matte B) 1397 motor , relatively mild cams,
14 to 1 CR JE pistons, alot of head work (he is a professional porter)
no big ports ,just lots of epoxy.......and on Swedish pump gas!
This is corected to J1349 norms, in STD it was 242hp.
