Here's a picture to start you all off with where I'm at with my project bike.

Just FYI in case you're wondering. Those are 8" bolt on swing arm extensions and the bars are mounted on a 1-1/4" spacer plate which I one-offed myself with a band saw and a dremel. The subframe is gone because I'm building my own shorty solo tail out of a 2003 R1 Aluminum sub frame.

It's been lowered 1.5 inches front and rear but I want to go further by haveing McIntosh machine section the oil pan.

In case you haven't noticed...it's not going to look much like a 'busa when I'm done. I'm a big streetfighter fan.

I'm still in the teardown process so that I can get at the engine enough to do the mods I need, pre turbo.

I'll post some pics of the hardware I've scrounged as soon as I get my hands on it.

Dave.

You can cut the stock pan, just make sure to run an extra (HP Robbing) quart of oil through it...

Thanks. I have a little lift but it's hard to get the headers off when they're supporting part of the bikes weight.

Custom ECU

The parts for my custom ECU finally arrived. Being a tech weenie and electronics guy, this is the part of the project that really gets me excited.

Here's a picture of the anodized (and o-ring sealed) aluminum casing:

The connectors are sealed around the plugs and at each pin.

ECU
« Reply #9 on: February 03, 2005, 10:49:50 PM »
Hank,

Everything I'm building is available commercially...you just can't buy it already built.

The only parts that are pre-fabricated are the circuit board and the extruded aluminum casing...everything else is just a big bag of 'lectronics. Some of the parts were hard to find but I was able to track down the super elusive motorola map sensor through some enthusiast groups.

The circuit board is not my design but is going to be customized to suit my purposes. I chose the circuit I did because it controls injectors, coils, and has 2 built in wide band O2 sensor controller (in addition to a ton of upgrade potential...egt, knock sensors, etc). I'd have made the board myself but some of it needed to be put together by a machine as many of the components are super tiny surface mount types.

As soon as I can get my engine rebuilt (still hunting for an inexpensive turbo and cams), I can install the ECU and start building a map...truly the part that I'm not looking forward to.
