Writing an article on top 10 fastest bikes avaliable.
« on: January 03, 2005, 05:13:51 PM »
Dear friends,

I am not a big motorcycle enthusiast, but I am writing this article on top grade machines that can reach outstanding speeds. The article will be about the top 10 bikes on the world and will be featured on a brazilian magazine.

What I am looking for is a ranking of top speeds these superbikes can reach w/o much modificiations. I mean, what are the "official" speeds on bikes people can actualy buy, not pro racing bikes (MotoGP, for instance)  or prototypes.

Can anyone help me? My e-mail is pollorecords@gmail.com

Cheers and thanks in advance,
Leo

No completely stock bike has yet exceeded the 194 mph run recorded by a '99 Suzuki Hayabusa, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

So are you looking for production bikes or production bikes modified and how much modification.  Modifications can be endless.  What is your idea of a little modification?

Didn't one run 202 in europe in the hands of a magazine??

With out to many mods, 200 is easily done.

badass1000,

Actually, now that I am getting into the subject, I think it won't be feasible unless I limit myself to "100% stock" bikes.

I already know, thanks to 02SE, that the Hayabusa is the fastest one. I'll search the others and try to get info from the manufacturers too.

Cheers and thanks,
Leo

After the 'busa, the fastest stock bikes are the modern liter class bikes - Suzuki GSXR 1000, Kawasaki ZX-10R, Yamaha R1, Honda CBR1000RR. In each case, the 2005 is the fastest year of each model. It's up to debate in which order those bikes fall.

hmmm... i thought the zx12r was a close second.  at least that's what all the tests i've seen suggested.

OK, sorry to stir some trouble here, but I am reading about the Y2K turbine bike and I wonder if... A) it is a stock bike, and B) it is really faster than the busa?

Cheers,

Good question?

To bad no one that owns one has enough balls to see what it will do!   They have been challenged by the Busa crew several times and they still seem scared!

In case you are wondering the list goes something like this:

1) Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa
2) ZX-12R
3) Any of the new liter bikes (GSXR1k, R1, ZX-10R, CBR1000RR)
4) CBR1100 XX
5) ZX-11

Now if you are talking specialty bikes....over $25k+ the list will get very long but then again, they aren't exactly factory stock!

The Y2K is faster than a Stock Busa, But the Y2K is not a Production Bike, you can not walk in a shop and by one, The busa is Champ, then ZX12R Ninja, it was the bike that was built to beat the busa, but it did Not, make sure you put that in your Mag.

The Y2K is supposedly slow "off the line" until enough air c.f.m.'s are going through the turbine. --(Around 0-50 mph) The Y2K is supposedly faster, top speed wise, but nobody'll do a head to head test between a Y2K and a Hayabusa or ZX12R, ---prob too hard to get a hold of a $150,000+ bike and an owner will put the whip to it. I'd really like to see what a Y2K will really do full speed.
I'd slap you, but shit splatters.

Who says it was ever faster?  :?:

No one has actually tested one in a real world test!  You only get these hypothetical "it should run" BS!   Unless you can prove otherwise, a stock Busa is still faster!

Is the Y2K turbine bike the fastest?, well, they (MTT) CLAIM it is. But it has yet to set any official records.

And another consideration is it's cost, around $150,000 US. Compared to $11,000 US for the Hayabusa.

Is it a stock bike?, I guess it is for a machine designed around a jet engine. It's designed to be what it is.

For whatever it's worth, MTT declined an offer from a member of this board to prove that their Y2K Turbine bike was actually the fastest, but they declined.

Until they prove it's the fastest, they can't CLAIM it's the fastest.

Top speed....stock
1999-2000 Suzuki Hayabusa 194mph
2000-2001 Kawasaki ZX12 189mph
2004-ZX10 186MPH
2004-Yamaha R1 184mph
2004-Suzuki GSXR1000 180mph
1997-2004 Honda CBR1100XX 178mph
1992-1999 Kawasaki ZX11 176mph
1989-1991 Kawasaki ZX10 170mph
2004-GSXR 750 168mph
1994-1997 GSXR1100 167mph

This is off the top of my head...figures should be close.
Y2K is not a readily available bike especially for those of us that don't have $150,000 to spend.
Tell ya what let us spend $30,000 on a Hayabusa, and it'll spank a Y2K into the next State....or any other bike for that matter with it's 500+++ horsepower
Three can keep a secret if two are dead!!

Ok Ok, reading this stuff and I need to input.

Tomahawk is considered a production motorcycle(no clue how something with 4 tires is a motorcycle but hey that's what Dodge calls it). Its 500hp++ in stock form should romp the Busa in theory. The Y2K in theory should also romp the Busa in stock form BUT it is classified as a custom built motorcycle.

i also remember reading about a foreign company(cycle world I believe) who were modding and reselling Cbr1000rr's as limited production motorcycles and they were supposed to exceed the Busa's top speed but they were like triple OEM price.

but stuff you'd probably find on the local street:

Top speed....stock
1999-2000 Suzuki Hayabusa 194mph
2000-2001 Kawasaki ZX12 189mph
2004-ZX10 186MPH
2004-Yamaha R1 184mph
2004-Suzuki GSXR1000 180mph
1997-2004 Honda CBR1100XX 178mph
1992-1999 Kawasaki ZX11 176mph
1989-1991 Kawasaki ZX10 170mph
2004-GSXR 750 168mph
1994-1997 GSXR1100 167mph

yeah that sounds pretty accurate.

Ain't nothing that wasn't published back in 99-2000 and they're still making them quicker lighter and more cheaply built.

Pollorecords,

Sportrider magazine publishes top speeds for all the bikes they've tested in the back of each issue. That might be a good place to start. I believe these numbers are also available on their website.
