Naw, he's gone to replace the clutch in his 12 again. That's the turbo 12 that can even reach 200 mph.

If you knew your facts, you would know that for that run, they started well behind the official starting line. And so they had a nice run-up to what is the starting line everyone else uses. Not an official run. Sorry.

Hmmm...so that's why the '12 is so dominant at Maxton. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a side note (but not trying to convince FK of anything, he's beyond help), when that Muzzy '12 was returned to Cycle World for testing (pretty sure it was CW) they couldn't get it to run nearly that fast FOR SOME STRANGE REASON (or as fast as their bone stock Busa did!!!!!!!!!!). And they published that fact in a followup article in the mag. Which I have.

Documentation man, documents.  :P

Fk here's a bit of info from people in the know.

Pay particular attention to the fastest stock engine Busa Owned by Scott Guthrie.

And to how Muzzy made those runs. They weren't ECTA records, because they started well behind the official starting line.  :)

Scott your 192+ record at Maxton on the production engine Hayabusa is very impressive. Nobody has been able to touch it, like you said without internal modification. I know that the busa that currently holds the production class record(s) has a larger than stock displacement and significantly more power just running thru stock exhaust so it's not as impressive as your original 192 and change. That's a solid 8 mph than my best on a similarly equipped zx12.

And your bike has a pipe and tuning and 175+ rwhp! Scotts Busa was showroom stock through stock exhaust. That's why I think that's one of the most impressive records set.

FK, read this post in particular. If the ECTA did give them a certificate, it wouldn't be comparable to anyone elses runs, because they ran on a much longer course.

If you'll read, it was estimated the Muzzy ZX-12 was already doing close to 100 mph, when it crossed the official starting line EVERYONE ELSE uses.

It may have gone that fast there, but it's not an official speed comparable to any other run over the Maxton course.

Sorry, that's the reality. I really hate to burst the 12 owners bubble.

I too have looked at and spoken to Doug about the 199+ at Maxton. They actually started on the taxiway to the right of the Grid and made a left turn at about 30 to 40 Mph (As fast as he could without tuching the front end) and ran through the staging area across the Start line (I do not know the speed there but I would think that by then they would have at least 80 to 100 mph in hand) and on to the regular course where the finish line was pushed back about 1/2 the distance to the 1st turn out. They and I believe that the bike would have gone over 100 if the temp had been less than the 97 to 99 degrees it was on that day.

How they did it does not matter because the "only" thing they were testing was "Top SPeed" on an "Internally Stock) 2000 Kawasaki ZX12R

FK, think yourself. The math is easy.

Busa = a total and ongoing rewrite of all the relevant recordbooks at recognized speed venues all over the planet. That's ONGOING, as in, NOW, as in, CURRENT, as in, both of these bikes have been out for YEARS, and yet:

ZX-12 = not.

AND, the Muzzy '12 wasn't even production line stock!!! Muzzy went into the motor and did what amounts to an AMA Superstock/Supersport-type blueprint (presumably without optimizing anything beyond production tolerances). Personally, I wouldn't presume that myself.

All in print for everybody to see. Doug even discussed it personally on Labusas way back when.

Kind of makes you wonder what kind of speeds Scott's showroom stock engined Busa could run on an extended course like Muzzy used.

I also wonder how much better his bike would have run if it had the benefit, of being torn down, and all parts optimized, but kept otherwise stock, like Muzzy's.

its true the Meyer riddern zx12 ran over 192-193 stock,
and certified at that speed at Maxton...........yet folks
here are still daft enough to really think that its not a
tossup between the 12r and the busa...........then argue
about course length.......

get real.............they both show up all the time at Bonneville........
and its ALWAYS a tossup.........and they usually always run mid 180's to
right around 190............but those are facts.........

The bikes are NOT a tossup on pavement. The Busa comes out ahead time and time again. Not every time, but most of the time. Who knows, the '12 might be a little faster in a swamp or from one end of a beach to the other, but who gives a shit about that.

ZX-12 best of multiple runs:

All times NON corrected.

Typical head to head dyno chart comparison between the ZX-12R and the

Hayabusa. Even though the 12 makes more peak HP (eventually), the Busa

makes more HP all the way up past 9000 rpm and the monster torque curve of

the Busa is unmatched! These factors combined with superior aerodynamics -

proven and documented in wind tunnel comparison tests - helps gives the

Busa the winning edge.

Special thanks to James Speirs aka FK in the UK for helping out on the test data.

Out of 14 different tests only one had the ZX-12R quicker in the 1/4-mile and only one had it faster TOP SPEED and that was because of NO rear hump on the Busa hurting the AERO!

Of course the ZX-12R is faster, Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

I just can't understand how a thinking individual could determine from the FACTS that the '12 is as fast as the Busa, much less faster. Like I said before, if anybody had claimed that the GSXR1100 was as fast as the ZX-11 back in the 1990s, they wouldn't have been any sillier than the '12 cheerleaders are now. But you didn't see that. I was on '11 boards all the time (had two new ones) and you just didn't see it.

its just funny to me...........most head to head tests have
them within 2 mph of each other, and in fact a zx12 faster than
the busa in at least one head to head...........its pretty much a tossup...

Hank when you ran your stock busa's and zx12 what did you find
in "real world"...........??????? (and how does your new zx10 fair
on the top end to your stock busa numbers??)
