Air shifter ?
« on: April 11, 2005, 01:49:00 PM »
I'm going to be putting a air shifter on a buddies 03 GSXR1000,I heard someone say the wiring on the horn button is somehow different than wiring up the busa with the MPS harness..

Anyone know or have done this??the Busa and 1k harness kit on the Schnitz site looks the same to Me??

And I thought the harness kit from MPS was like $30? schnitz is $64..did they go Up or Am I just remembering wrong??

Any help would be great..Thanks!!

I just disconnected my horn and hooked the air shifter directly to the wireing harness where the horn used to plug in on my 03 1000.

  Thats what I did on my buddies 02 1000. I just wired the kill box directly to the stock horn wires. He mostly just races it so he didn't need a horn any way.

Kill box was always on.  Used horn button for shifter.  It had a on board compressor and a air pressure gauge mounted up front.  Toggle switch to turn on compressor.  Nitrous activated by the pass button.
It did not work very well and of course I was late to races hooking it up so I didn't even use it.  First couple passes the linkage was binding up.  Bracket races so it was not helping so I quit using it.
I went out on a different day to set it up.  It would shift good when under part throttle, but would not shift in high rpms at full throttle.  I was adjusting the kill time and went from all the way one way to all the way the other and it didn't seem like much difference.  Then my compresor went out and melted a bunch of wireing.  I removed it and am now waiting to sell one of my bikes to get some money to finish my turbo 03 1000.  I had spencer cycle make me a exteneded arm with air tank built in.  I want to get a better looking air pressure gauge to mount up front. A new compresor and a nlr 2 step with ignition kill.

Who needs a horn at the track? :D  I disconnected my horn. Just another thing to remember or check if it is on when racing.

I had a 2# in there and had to do a little mod. Cut out the metal under the latch. Trim plastic in back. I went to two 1# to make it easier to get the bottles out. I had to take off my latch for the cowl to remove the 2#bottle. I would go with two 1#ers.

E-racer.  Try to get ahold of 2 20oz bottles and see if they will work. Or you could get some body to measure the diameter of a 1lb and a 20oz bottle.  I think they are the same diameter just the 20 oz is longer.  It looks like the 2 1lb bottles is about as big a diameter as you can fit.  You might have to do some more plastic cutting, but I think it will work.  I had 1 20oz bottle in my 03 1000.  I never got another bottle to try it, but I think it will work.  I know running a big shot (50hp or so) a extra 1/2lb would really help.
2 20oz bottles = 2 1/2 lbs.
