I saw a few post about the sensor base picking up heat and making it read wrong...has anyone tried to just wrap it in some insulation( pipe foam) to keep the heat off??

Search,
There are numerous solutions including relocating (to the intake ram air tube...what I did) or wrapping/shielding it.
It helps in high temp (>100degrees) especially stop&go situations..

I never messed with mine, but applying silicone around the sensor base might work.  If you ever need to take it off, it should peel off easy enough.
