ZX12 HP?
« on: May 25, 2005, 02:41:09 AM »
Anyone got real dyno #'s for a ZX12 with a 1270cc kit from what I hear they're only making 200hp   but make 175hp-180hp with a pipe and PC

ZXLNT

It is hard to compare, the Busa comes in a milder state of tune (lower compression, smaller cams, etc) than a ZX12, but the extra 100cc and the torque that comes with it helps a lot.

I think APE has a prebored cylinder and pistons for around 900 bucks.  You send in your old stock cylinders for a core

I guess I asked that wrong I'm asking because I have a friend that is thinking about doing it.

If you look at it 200hp and still 28cc less than a stock busa is good but the fact that you can get 175hp with just a pipe and PC  and then spend $2000 on a piston kit installed to get 25hp sucks.

Um a JE 1287cc Piston kit with prebored block etc etc is $909.    Not sure where the 2K for the bigbore kit comes from....

installed and tunned

most people don't do their own motor work and on the 12 you have to drop the motor to install the piston kit

and I believe it's 200hp with a pipe and PC not on a stock bike

Yeah, that labor cost sure is a killer ain't it.
You could get 50-70HP a little cheaper with NOS,
or 1270 with Nos close to 270-300HP for double
the coin. 8) Around same cost and HP as Busa
with ghetto, just a bottle to fill.

Sell the 12 and go Busa  . Stock Busa with
Nos 265HP. Cheap turbo Busa 240-270HP.
1397Busa and Nos just shy of 300HP (Slightly less
cost than big bore 12 and Nos).

Millenium Bore $400+, Pistons $450-$550, Nos kit $650-$2000

Busa Turbo kit around $4000+

ZX-12 Turbo Kit around $7-8K :P  :P

Done about a dozen 1287cc motors with port work & cams, they all come out between 200 & 206bhp (in DIN) I think there is one in a magazine stateside im told this month.

Not major power improvement but riding wise they do shift & will leave an equivilent 1400 busa  at the top end.

Reliability wise on the 1287cc no problems & a couple of guys have done over 20,000 on theirs so pretty durable.

Be careful of stock pistons with gas, they aint too strong.

Hey now, if they get to post happy numbers, post mine too, lol

206rw/109ft-lbs    :P

1287cc, Carpenter head (old version), stock cams.

...and now that we're done dyno racing...

Almost 10,000 miles on it. No hot start issues.  Drag racing, mountain riding, top end runs, acts like a stock bike until about 7000rpm. Not a single problem.

Dyno's vary though.

Example

My bike bone stock on DJ150.  153.2 ponies.
With Muzzy pipe 167

On DJ250 with pipe  174 ponies

On DJ150 again with 1270 kit  182 horsepower.
Never dynoed on DJ250

Same bike different dynos.

They vary  IDGAF what people say, dynos vary..

Average power from just pistons....A strong stock motor can make mid 170's....

I think it was sport rider who did a 1270cc kit a while back....they were surprised to get 180 also....when everyone was claiming 200....

To get 200 from a 1270 is like getting 235 from a 1397 busa....it happens mostly on the internet....but has happened with a lot of work....and reduced reliability...
