Anybody have experience with the lowered gas tanks?
« on: May 26, 2005, 02:37:37 PM »
The lowered/slammed gas tanks offered by Airtech and Catalyst are supposed to get the rider down lower for reduced drag. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Any real-life before and after top speed results from using the tanks? They cost about $800, so how much $/MPH do they return?
Thanks
Don

mine is glass, Guy's is carbon. 2.2 gallons I believe. the entire top is just a shell. the bottom portion holds the fuel. comes with as many bungs as you need and a nice vent. Mike can also do OEM style intank pump plates too.

a friend of mine bought a new so-low catalyst carbon fiber tank from gwizz for 1k back in 12-04 and I think he'd be willing to sell it at a reduced price even though it's still in the box and he hasn't even installed it...

call me if ya interested in it.

Hawkwind,
how did you make yours? All fiberglass, metal? Is it a modified stock tank or an original? Details?

a stock tank , looked at what I needed, marked it out ,did a cut and shut  ,changed the internal pipe work for multipull outlets ,I even managed to place the filler up the top ( where it should be ) if you are handy with basic tools its quiet easy to do

Even for a Kawasaki with a Rider that has to make room for his Upper and "Fallen" Chest :D

Here is where I cut the tank down and used the top for the Gas Cap.

VH I know you made your own, very nice.  My question is does any vendor offer cut tanks for the zx12? catalyst?

None that I have seen except the guy in Hawaii that made one out of CF where I got my idea from. At Gainesville, I saw that even Bear Racing had cou all of their tanks like mine and kept the covers over them for all of the "Other" things that were in there (Like Turbo plumming)

Like I said, In Hawaii Jack cannot seem to get his finger out of the way either :D

I wish catalyst or another vendor has a 12R cut tank, I'd like to try one just for S&G and see what happens.
