Yosh, Mega's, Webb's or Brock's cams
« on: May 28, 2005, 08:18:29 PM »
I've searched every cam post to no avail and I'm hoping you guys can assist me. I have a 2000 Busa with BDE, small box, PAIR removal, PCII w/ Brocks map. I am currently looking to upgrade my stock cams with drop in cams.  Which would be the best option for horsepower increase and what would be the cam timing and degree for them.  I do not drag race just aggressive sport riding.
2000 Blue/Silver Busa, BDE Gen III titanium exh, PCII, MC 385 cams, air box mod, ram air seals, billet short stacks, stock filter, PAIR removal, Muzzy fan, 16/42 sprockets, EK ZZZ chain, RC Triton wheels, ceramic wheel bearings, Michelin Pilot Power

.385/252 Megacycles on both sides. 104/106 - 105/107 lobe centers.

385/252 IS TOO MUCH DURATION FOR THE EXHAUST SIDE....

IVE HAD THE CAMS AND WENT BACK TO YOSH .. PICKED UP POWER..

RUN THE 385/252 ON THE INT.. AND BROCKS SMALL EXH CAM..

THATS THE COMBO I AM GOING TO TRY THIS WINTER..

Buddy, what's the duration of Brock's exhaust cam you refer to?

Brock's exhaust cam is made by Web and is remarkable similar to the stock intake cam in terms of lift and duration. I agree with Buddy in saying the .385/252 is simply too much cam for the exhaust side particularly on a mild stock bore. If the motor spun to 13K, it could be a different story.

BROCKS SMALL EXH IS .348 LIFT / 235 DUR. AT .050

IT IS VERY SIMILAR .. I JUST DONT LIKE HOW THE STOCK INTAKE ON THE EXH SIDE DOES NOT RIDE RIGHT.. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE RUN THEM LIKE THAT FOR A LONG TIME .. I JUST WANT TO BE SAFE..

In comparing grinds measured at different specs, you can add 5 degrees to a .05 and get close to a .04 (1mm). So in the above, it would turn out to be 240 degrees @ .04 which is the duration of a stock intake.

Or maybe run a Web 378 Inlet with  a stock inlet on the Exhaust with higher than std CR? and extended ECU?

How about the way the intake cam runs on the exhaust side. It has to be different. Nobody talks about that(at least recently) I like those Yosh for sure with mild motors.

TMH talks about the negatives of the intake on exhaust mod whenever it is discussed. It is a cheap mod and makes pretty good power.

TRUE...DONT FORGET IF YOU USE LARGE  LIFT/DURATION CAMS EVEN W/LARGE BORE YOU STILL NEED A HEAD TO COMPLIMENT IT OR POWER WILL STILL FALL OFF W/REVS.        Caps

True enough. On the other hand, a good head with smaller cams can outperform a marginal head with bigger cams. I geuss you really have to have a handle on the flow characteristics of the head and engine requirements to make wise/informed decisions on camshafts.

Anyone tested the HP gain of a good street ported head? Just the HP with the head and no other parts added at the time. I usually hear of head and cams increase or head and pistons. :?
