Front tire sizes
« on: November 05, 2002, 08:40:00 PM »
In all the discussions on tires that I have read - no one has mentioned front tire size.  Has anyone tried a different size front - like a 120/65/17 instead of the stock 120/70/17???  If so, what were the results?????

Everyone seems to have a favorite rear size - 180/55 - 190/50 - 200/50 .  How come no different sizes on front?????

I am putting on an Avon 120/60/17 with my Shenko 190 rear next week. Advantages? It sits lower for sure. About 1/2-5/8" in the front. I was a little concerned about riding when its wet because of the tread pattern, but then I was reminded of where I live. Arid-zona! I'll let you know next week.

It just seemed to me to be a way to lower the front and keep the same amount of fork travel for the corner carvers.  It would also allow the drag racers an extra 1/2" to 1" drop in the front after raising the fork tubes as much as possible with out hitting the front fender.

The ride could be a little more harsh on the front, and you wouldn't have as much buffer if you happened to smash a pot hole.  But it should be fine otherwise.  It may change the way it handles, for better or worse......
