Front and rear sprockets
« on: June 06, 2005, 06:18:05 PM »
I went to a 16/39 combination... Was this the way to go? I dont really notice any difference, should I have bought another combination ? I hear going down one in the front is good, but what about the rear.. I dont really care about top end because our bikes have more than enough of that, I wanted a little more pull, and the ease of weelies.. Any answers would be appreciated, thanks..

16 is okay for harder acceleration but going down in the rear is opposite. Try a 42 on the rear, then you should notice easier wheelies.

Why go with a 16/39 combo, then come in here and ask was this the way to go?  SHould have asked advice first, then went with the combo you where looking for. Put the 17 back on the front, the bigger gear up front is easier on the chain.  Go with a 42 or 43 on the rear, this will shorten your wheel base, you will have no problems getting the front off the ground.

I ran this combination on a stocker 4" over on the track and it pulled like a mule...what an awesome combo...I'd suspect you'd be a wheelieing fool if you were at stock length...

16/42 is the only way to go, as far as i'm concerned. You give up some top end. But the bike will have so much more grunt and kick in the lower gears.......very fun. I can raise the front wheel going into 4th gear @ 10,000 rpm's.

I tried 16/42. It's pretty fun around town.  I don't have enough ass to hold it down on the track.  I'm using 16/41 and I'm very happy with it. It pulls hard and still has some top end.
