'05 1000 shock on a 'Busa
« on: June 06, 2005, 09:44:58 PM »
Should you do it? For $50 I now have a rear shock that works. My stock shock was harsh, and would cause clunking sounds when hitting bumps. The new shock really smoothed the bike out and it seems to handle better since the bike is not bouncing over bumps. I am also using a lot of compression and reboud on the new shock, but it still rides very good. I got up to 120mph going through some light S-curves and the bike tracked great. Also raised the rear, so I am sure that helped with the handling. Bike no longer feels like a big pig. 8)  From what I have heard this applies to '03 and newer 1000 shocks.

Good info, I knew the earlier shocks from the 1000's would fit however I did not hear of any reports of the high speed handling..

If you are using an extended arm, you will need to use a heavier spring. It is not the shock. The 1000 has a lower spring rate. Use the newer 1000 shocks('03-up?) which are the same diameter as an Ohlins and smoother valving than the Busa. As far as mush, I only weigh 260lbs. :? Give one a try preferably '05-up. I only paid $50 for mine(Ebay), and it was a 0 mile take off. 8)

Srping rates:
01-02   7.7kg/mm
03-04   8.6kg/mm
05-up   8.1kg/mm

I don't drag race. My bike is raised an inch, and I have a 42T rear sprocket to shorten her up a little. It does go around a corner pretty well. :D
