question about 1000 cams
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:27:48 AM »
Im currently going to MMI in AZ and asked an instructor of mine about some cams. He pointed me to you guys for some information. I have a 2004 GSXR 600 (i know its not a liter bike but instructor said to post under liter bike section) and i was planning on sticking some different cams in it. I was on the gixxer.com website and was told to put GSXR1000 cams in instead of the yosh stage 1 cams. I wanted to get someones opinion on running 1000 cams in a 600 but i dont know if i can trust someone from that website. They said to run 1000 cams with gsxr750 springs and slap the 600 camshaft gears on it. If anyone could help me out and tell me what they think i should do, would greatly appreciate it. Would like to know everything possible of what i would have to change over to make this work if it will work, what changes it would do to the bike (like not be able to run as high of rpms), anything i would need to know to be careful of.

well I only work on 1000's so I can't be of great help.
I don't know about putting 1000 cams in a 600.  If you have a 600 leave the 600 springs in it.  If it was a 1000 then you would put 750 springs in it. The yosh stage 1 cams are not really going to gain you much power because they don't have any more lift then the stock cams.  On a 1000 most guys only gain 3 or 4 hp with yosh stage 1's.  Great gains can be made with a set of web cams though because they have more lift.  I would give web a call and tell them what you want and I am sure they will have some thing for you.
Maybee some one else can chim in.
