Yosh Cam timing for a 1300
« on: August 17, 2005, 04:45:30 PM »
I have been searching and I have not found a clear answer for yosh cam timing. The only answer I have seen was to put them at 105/105.  I weigh 210ish and ride mostly on the street. I have RS-3 race exhaust, small box, PC3R, TRE, and stock gearing.

I also was wondering if you deduct your valve lash from .050 when you are measureing with the dial indicator to find your cam timing.

I was wondering what the cam timing is if you use the marks that are on the cam sprockets? I have heard it is not the best setting.

Deducting the valve lash of .040 or .050 which ever you check it at will not change your cam timimg. It will only give you different total cam degree readings. What I mean by this is take Megacycle cams for instance. The cam card info may read 252 degrees at .040. To get the reading of 252 degrees you would have to check the cams at 0 lash.

For your engine setup and your weight I would suggest either 104/106 or 105/105.

To make sure I am clear it is 104/106....Intake/exhaust correct?

Which is for torque or HP 104/106 or 105/105?

Thanks for all the help so far

Actually they are both about the same. 104 intake is a low lob center and is for torque. The 106 exhaust helps it to continue to pull on the topend. The 105/ 105 is almost the same thing. Not as much bottom end and maybe not as much rush at the top. You will just have to try them both to see which you like. I think that you will end up with 104 intake and 106 exhaust.

Not set of pants for lack of a better term, but the dyno would show a difference.

...or subtract your lash from .040 and use that # to check against the timing card. ie  .006 lash-.040= .034

THEY WILL WORK ANY WHERE BETWEEN 104 AND 110
108 IS ABOUT THE POINT WHERE IT EFFECTS LOW SPEED(8500 DIP STARTS APPEARING)
I WOULD GO IN THE 107/105 RANGE FOR ALL AROUND GOOD H P AND STILL MAKE GOOD TORQUE

how does this work for stock inlet cam on exhaust mod

I am just waiting to get my 2nd cam sprocket. Will these settings work

with stock cams. Cams cost alot to get down under so I'm doing this

untill I get some more cash...........

Sounds like I have plenty of options.  I will probably have my shims and everything I need in less than a week so, I will let you guys know how it all turns out and what reading the butt dyno gives.
