K5 VS 04 ZX-10
« on: July 27, 2005, 10:05:24 AM »
I had a chance to do a few roll ons with both bikes with a guy who is about
15 lbs heavier. On the ZX-10,I get jumped about 2 bike lenghts, then inch back untill we are about even at the rev limiter. When I am on the gixxer,I am at the rev limiter before he is.The ZX-10 has about 3200 miles oniy, and the K5 has about 500.

Oops, forgot to log in :D .The gixxer made 153.45 hp and 76.59 tq,and the ZX-10 made 153.39 hp and 76.02 tq.Very close, except the gixxer made the hp and tq earlier, but the ZX-10 held it further. Both bikes are stock.

wow talk about close overall numbers..
In my expierience the gixxer always seems to make more power sooner.
the other night though I rolled on with a buddy of mine with an 03 gsxr and he used to barely pull me from 4000-7500 where it would even out but now I have a slip-on and a pc3 and now I pull him right from the drop  of the hammer . the slip-on and the pc gave me the hit I needed down low. I've never been a believer in slip-ons but I'm telling you they make a difference on this bike.
4-7000 is stronger now then before. I have yet to get the bike dynoed though to see where the numbers fall.
were the two dyno runs on the two different bikes done on the same day?

The runs were made 2 days apart, but the curves would be the same, even if the numbers vary some.I thought they would be close, and they are,but the gixxer gets the nod for being slightly quicker, with equal riders.I would not be suprized after riding both, that either one could win with equal circumstances.

Makes sense....The 10's had a good advantage over our 04 1K's last year...the fastest being Ryan's Muzzy bike...he always had 3-4 mph on us...

This year the 05 1K's are dominant in 1K SS....the ONLY 10 to match the times/speeds so far is John Halls bike(Ryans old bike). Otherwise the 05 1K's have the advantage....FOR NOW.

FYI...it appears the 05 1K's wake up a little more with pipe/tune than the 10's.

Thanks Dave. That will be the next part of my comparison.I plan on putting pipes and other small similar mods on both bikes to see which one responds better to them.

and if you come down hard a few times it snaps  right where it goes into the frame where  its bolted
then the ram tube pops out and you gotta get a new one
then ur plastics are all flopping all over the place  wtf? dAMM PLASTIC
front end  its the one thing i didnt like about the zx10

How is the handling of the 10R vs the Gixxer?

I am 5'9" and the Gixxer feels more comfortable but then again ive never ridden a 10R.

10Rs are going for alot less right now.

Also is the 10Rs power band a little more exciting?

The both would be fine for my skill level.I suspect the gixxer gets the nod as it is the most neutral bike I have ever ridden, but a taller person may prefer the 10.

i rode a stock 10 the other night at the strip and i couldn''t touch flat and i am 5'10.  it is for sure higher than the 1000.  it did run a 10.6 at 138 and wheelied with me on it the first time i ever rode it.  it felt as strong as teh gsxr to me but sat way to high.  for sure teh tallest out of the big 4 liter bikes.

Yes, the 10 is a tall mother!!

When Hank and I swapped bikes, a K5 and a ZX10, I got on the 10 and almost fell over!!! (but I am kinda short....   )

The bikes were dead even from a 60 MPH roll, up to 180 indicated, starting in second gear and speedshifting up. The weights were nearly identical.

I was amazed how close they were, neither would gain an inch on the other all the way up...

I was also amazed how hard they pulled above 150 MPH, when I banged 5th and 6th gear, they were both still pulling really hard! :thumb:

That being said, I like the K5 better, and that's coming from a Kawasaki nut!!

Plus, the K5 has a cool on-dash gear indicator, which Hank and I agreed was pretty fuckin' cool, one less thing to think about!

Oh, BTW, the ZX10 tach sucks ass, it is the worst gauge display I've ever seen!! WTF were they thinking when they put that into production??

Anyhow, when I had to ride something home from the shop, there was a turbo Busa, a ZX10, and a K5 Gixxer,  I took the K5..... 8)
