This is going to be an interesting engine. For one thing, Kawasaki is moving closer to the Hayabusa in basic engine geometry by going with a bore/stroke of around 1.38; it had been 1.50 with the ZX12. The engine will certainly have comparatively more low end grunt than it did. The other point of interest is that the basic dimensions of the engine are very close to a 1397 so we may get some pointers on how Kawasaki would build what has proved to be a popular mod for the Hayabusa. It will be interesting to see what valve sizes they use, what compression they use, what the rpm limit is and what the cam specs are.

Really interesting.
Kaw will be willing to use more piston speed than Suzuki most likely.
Maybe get close to 190 BHP?

Based on Kawasaki's history I'd say the valves will be larger than the Busa and the cams hotter.

Better flowing head and higher C/R...

Next Gen Busa will destroy it...

I would say bone stock at the tire 165-170 would be realistic

making predictions, eh?

ZX 14 COULD have easily been made w/hp like the 1375 Muzzy kit (185-200+) but i becha it isn't.

 I'm guessing it'll have lower CR than 1375 = cure prob w/hot starting;

I'm guessing it'll have a Busa-like limiter = motor life;

I'm guessing it'll have longer rods so skirts don't peek outa the cyl

predictions:
1. limiter:  less than 11,000
2. rw hp: 165-172.55
Often wrong, but never unsure!!!!!

I like your power prediction but I think the redline will be a tad lower......more like 11,000 to 11,150. Separately, its odd that they went with dual pipes unless they are trying to emulate the Busa.

                   bore   stroke
stock ZX12   83.0   55.4
ZX12 1270                   85.4   55.4
ZX12 1375                   85.4   60.0
ZX12 1427                   87.0   60.0

Talked to a couple of dealers today who had attended a show and picked up some additional information. The discussion at the show is that the bike puts out 195 HP at the crank or, by my math, about 173 HP at the rear wheel. Design goals, according to discussion, were to produce a bike that beats a lightly modded Busa.....I geuss a pipe and a PC.  Compression ratio is 12.7:1 (up from 12.2:1), throttle bodies are 44mm (down from 46mm) and redline appears to be 11,000 from brochure pics.

If 173RWHP  comes in good on a dyno in the "real" world, its still approx 20 more than a std Busa.
Interesting days

And the weight?  I read somewhere like  203kg?

The bike should be plenty quick/fast...

Comp is 12.7:1 No room for any high comp pistions, It,s max out pretty much, and Kaw said the ZX-10 was 184/Ram Air in the Ad,s and they put out 150-155 real world thats almost a 30hp differance, So the ZX14 will have 195 at the crank, which is around 166 R wheel, I say 170 HP, but we Know kaw will give all the mags a 180HP bike, then when the guy down the street buys one it will only put out 170 HP. :lol:

Just dont seem right does it, all thise 400 hp busas running around. Its like ohh only 170 hp??? get the f outta here. Its still a 170hp from a 1.35l or 82 ci motor :) or just over 2hp per ci.

I think it was 1350 cc wasent it? I dont belive it was a dead up 1400, but might be wrong.

But it does still seem a little low for compared to the 1397 busas makeing 185-190 hp. But we still make more torq  :joker:

I'll go with Entropy's very precise 172.55HP :lol:  :lol:

I might have to drop a 1375 kit in my 2000 model to keep up.

I wonder if it will have forged or cast pistons?

They should have just made it 1427cc and called it a 1400. :wink:

If the compression is 12.7:1 the cams will be pretty hot or it will have a knock sensor or both . I'd guess also smaller base circle than the 12R since they are using smaller throttle bodies . Need valve sizing though .

As for the dual exhaust with catalytic converters, I assume the bike is already CARB 2008 compliant unlike the current Busa and will have an 02 sensor .

It would be nice to know the rod length and bore spacing but not nice enough to dig around for it .

After going back and looking at the ZX10 and the ZX12, I could see them specing out a .380 lift intake cam for 33mm valves or a .370 lift cam for 34mm valves. I think they will favor the bigger valves and the lower lift.
