Has anyone seen this?
« on: October 11, 2005, 05:48:44 PM »
I had done the small Air box mod, when I took the bike in for re-mapping they cut the top out of my filter, and lifted the front of my tank 3/4 to let air in.

It doesn't look right to me.

It feels like it has more go down low, but high in the rev range it just runs out of puff early (8900).

Should I close this back up?
I have a good K&N and a stock filter which is best?(I am still stock motor)

I was thinking to just close the top up with no filter for strip use, with maybe something like stocking material over the stacks to keep the bits out.

What do you mean by the uni PREfoam? And can you show me a pic of it?

Yeah Gazza and Maj, you know who done it, I'm not going to put it up here, the two others he done it to are bad mouthing him enough.
I was lucky that I had picked up Alex's box for $50 with the K&N when he went turbo, so I have the parts to repair it.

Maj,   I am going with the alloy box and big ram air early next year, after seasons end.

2fast4ubusa,   It dyno'd fairly well at 170@ 8900, the power curve shoots up good but it stops short at 8900 and drops away, it is stock internals I have started to get it ready for the turbo so it has 650cc injectors and TSI comuter, apart from that just pipes. Before the air box chop up it dyno'd at 175 @ 10,000(there abouts)

Nemisis,  That is exactly what I thought when I saw it, once it gets up to speed the air will just blow straight out and won't presurise.

Commuta_Busa,  I was almost talked into buying alloy velocity stacks and getting rid of the Air box all together, but it didn't sound right to me to take the box out.

I think it's like Johnnycheese said "It works well on the dyno, but in the real world it is useless."

Post the name of that shop, so noone else goes!  If you do go w/ a filter.  I use a K&N, tho BMC makes a little more power.  I hope your bike doesn't go back to that shop

While I am putting the new filter in should I put all short stacks in as well, or leave them stock?

What do you mean that you paid for an airbox ? "He's" got a couple of spares I'm sure he would give you one once you jacked up about the lack of performance. (after all you are bigger )

Dyno's, do it once for a ball park then stay the hell away from it, practice Dave thats what you need mate , take it from me , hasn't been dyno'd for over a year and have ran my best ever since.

Leonard.

Leonard you know how long I have been chasing this problem down, this is the only thing that is left to change it back to how it was before I started to lose mph.
But it makes sense that it loses power about the same time the air box would start to build a bit of presure up, top of 3rd gear onwards, this is where it felt slower to rev up.
The air must be just blowing straight out the top once it builds up a bit of speed.

I put a K&N in it, and I knocked 2 tenths off my previous times with the top off the air filter.
I also picked up 5 mph straight away, this was with a totally shagged out tyre I was spinning up in 1st and 2nd, 60's were in the 1.6's so I have room for improvement there.

I think I can get maybe another 4mph with a good tyre and a 1.5  60'.

I still haven't had it remapped and it was back firing and carrying on, so I will get that done this week too.

Hi ! I have a full black LE. When I was running my bike in stock form, I pull out the stock air filter front metal plate that has many round holes on it. Shortly, I added a TRE, it breath better. Than, thats where the mod jobs story begins.  :D
