15t sprocket

I guess this is the right section for this question. I'm dropping the front to a 15 on my Busa. First is this too low? How much of a difference will I notice and also how bad is it gonna throw my speedo off? Any help will be greatly appreciated because I have never changed teeth size on a bike. Thx in advance.

yes it's too much, it puts alot of stress on the chain go 16/42 instead

I've seen it done, and the guys loved the torque....but it does fuck with things. 3-4 up on the rear would yield similar results without the cons to the front change

Vortex agreed to switch me to a 16 instead. Is that gonna be better on the bike as far as not hurting things? I know nothing about gearing as u can tell. I just want a little more low end. Should I change the rear to a 42 or will it be ok like it is?

Don't do the 15.

I went with the 15/40 soon after I got my bike.  The stock gearing was way too high for me.  I understand the argument that the 15 puts extra stress on the chain, but it is cheap and easy and I knew that in less than a yr I would be changing it all anyways.  The 15/40 made a tremendous difference in feel-went from just taking kinda sluggish from like a 10 mile per hour roll, to smoking the tire from the same punch.   Feel doesn't always equate to improved track times-mine ran the same ET and MPH after the change but was easier to launch at least.

And yes the speedo is WAY off.  You will need a cal box to fix that.
2003 Black/Gray Busa Ghetto installed as of 12-31-05  Dynoed at 273/144   4 in over,Shinko,18/45 ZZZ, etc etc 

2002 Silverado cammed, supercharged and nitroused.  Best run of 11.22 at 126 so far-more to come

16/42-43 offers the same feel without stressing the chain and damaging the arm. throw a chain and tell us if it was worth it  :wink:

I left the stock 17 up front and went with a 42 in the rear. I'm about 135 pounds  so this should be great for me around town and on the highway.

I use a 15 front sprocket. No proplems so far. The bike has dry shot NO2, I inspected the chain and sprockets very close last week....everything looked fine, no obvious wear at all. I understand the arguements against a 15 front, but mine has worked good.

my tranny guy said stay stock in the front and go up as much as you want in the back.. speacially with high horse power.. keeps all the stress off the chain from going around such a small dia.

You will need to buy the speed o fix from Schnitz racing 1800 519 9730 They would be able to help you. Just call them they will help you and tell them what you are doing.

If you guys do ANY highway riding a 15-40 combination will get old quick at 70-80  MPH the motor sounds like its doing 10 grand its not of coarse but just sounds like it is
The older you get do you notice you start chickening out way before the bike does

I did two up in back and left the front alone.  big difference but first gear is very short....almost worthless.
