Spaz Racing head work
« on: November 08, 2002, 01:13:00 AM »
I spoke wth Spaz yesterday regarding headwork. I liked what he had to say as well as his prices.I am planning to send my stock head out for porting in a month or so in an effort to gain a bit more in my cammed 1397.I had previously been looking at Carpenter despite his high costs.I am looking for some feedback from those who have had head work done by Spaz. What did you gain? Were you satisfied with his service? Would you spend the extra cash for Carpenter instead?

ask john what kind of power his bikes making and who did the headwork . that should be enough

There is not much to be gained by doing headwork.  A mild one is OK for up to 220 rwhp.
I have mine done and put bigger valves in it and "all" I got was around 5-10% more flow that boils down to 2,5-5% more horsepower.
My 240RWHP 1550 would problaby give 220 without headwork........
I dont know what I am talking about but I do know that I am right :)

Ill vouch for spaz.......i sent him a customers head two months ago; and it came back in a timely fashion, and i must say it was better than the head on my bike that another shop did for me...dont want to call names, he is on this board, no bashing........so u should spend the money w/spaz.. he does good work..........

uh...carpenter has a 150k 5 axis cnc machine and every head is identical no human error factor....it is hard to put a price on perfection.

150k is the cheapest ive seen for a 5 axis
really...

the cnc part of a port job only goes so far . still some skilled handy work goes into it before and after the cnc cut .
a flowbench can level the playing field and after a few you'd be suprised how a steady hand and a talented individual can duplicate results over and over again .

Here are my numbers ( at 28" of water ).
Lift Std  ported
1 32,30  34,2
2 64,10  68,4
3 95,90  100,4
4 125,8  130,8
5 151,2  157,5
6 175,5  188
7 195,0  206,4
8 209,7  225
9 219,0  239,4
10 225,0 248,1

Since the orginal cam only lift 8,5mm the true flow are around 215cfm and in using Yoshimura stage 1 on my ported head its 240cfm. Up 12%.

A stock GSXR1100 oil cooled flows around 144cfm
And a stock GS1100 flows 120-130 ( poor quality )

REMEMBER THIS IS  28 INCHES OF WATER.
Would be interesting to know what the head SPAZ have ported flows?

Spaz has worked on both my busas and is a perfectionist when it comes to motor work. Highly recomended.
