Having NO luck with solenoids so far!
« on: May 07, 2007, 09:48:36 PM »
I have now gone through 4 solenoids...

The problem I'm having with all of them is that they are sticking open all the time! They are the super powershot or similar ones. What are the best solenoids to go with?? Or should I just upgrade to the 250hp rated solenoid?? Anyone have this problem with theirs?

Another thing, I am using an A&J dry controller to activate the solenoid...it's really bothering me now to know why or how the solenoids stick open like that??  :?

are you using teflon tape?  maybe you need a nitrous filter,  who does your fills?

Are you trying to spray a smalle amount of N20 through a progressive setup than what the solenoid is made for?   You may have to put the jet in front of the solenoid to get it to operate properly.

GeorgeC and Lilmikef i think had to change their setup due to issues...

Go with the Bigger Pro selenoids and check to see if bottle pressures are not too high.
High bottle pressures usually cause'em(smaller selenoids) to stick closed.

I am using teflon tape and I do my own fills from a 60lb mother tank. The Dynotune solenoid has a small mesh screen inside however so I don't think any crap is getting inside anyway.

The solenoids don't have a problem with opening, the problem is they stick open all the time

It's around 800-900psi. The pressure is not the problem. I've heard of solenoids sticking closed due to high pressure, but not sticking wide open all the time! Frustrating to say the least!

Is this sticking happening while on the bike at WOT, or is it while testing without a jet in place?

What happens is, I'll use the solenoid on the bike for a day of riding. After a few times of activating it, it just sticks open all the time, wasting all of my nitrous! Then I'll bring it back to the shop and it is just stuck open. Dynotune has recommended opening it and checking out the seal if there's any dirt on it but I did that and it looks ok to the naked eye. This sucks cuz I have a race this Sunday and need to figure it out! :?

Not ignoring anything, just forgot to reply.... the solenoid nut is not loose at all. I already checked that.

Haven't been on here in a bit...well I figured out the problem. I guess since I'm not running a nitrous filter, perhaps some crap from inside the bottle got in the solenoid in between the plunger and was causing it to stick open. I cleaned it out then tapped on the bottom of the housing with a hammer to reseat the plunger and presto the problem is solved. I now run two solenoids inline just in case one of them fails.
