Nick, are you a ZX12 man now? No more Busa? I was surprised to see pics of a ZX12 instead of a Busa.

Wow Nick.. some really nice pics in there. Looks like you had one helluva trip. How was the 12 to ride? What a weird looking machine, but impressive all the same. I can only assume thats a carbon fibre body.

How do you like your Roof helmet? Is it quiet and comfortable? I was considering a purchase myself

Thanks

I was delivering it for a friend...

it is likely i will have ongoing access to it if I desire, but I do prefer my busa... honestly.

however, the 12r is no bike to be underestimated, it handles better than a busa, but lacks the grunt. of course, both my busa and this 12r are hardly stock in any way...

that cop was hanging out at the end of a long TUNNEL. My radar didnt pick him up until it was too late. he was sitting at the end of the tunnel shooting sideways... and the tunnel was curved. he got me for 84 in a 65... 2 miles an hour more and he said he would have impounded the bike and taken me to jail. he didnt even give me one mph off the ticket. total fine was 116... and no points since i had a cali license...

Looks like it was a good trip. Glad to see that you had plenty of protection from law enforcement officers - they were helping you out, right? Helping an out of towner with directions?

How did the no plate thing go over with them?

It's about time!! 8 Days?!?  Sheesh!!

I knew ZX-12's were slow, but that's ridiculous!!!

Next time, ride a bike that will go faster than 84 mph!!

Nick, sorry I missed you on your trip. I've been on and off the board (sometimes for a week or two at a time) and I didn't realize you were going to be in Pennsylvania until I read you had just left Penna. Damn! I would have met up with you almost anywhere in Penna.

A FEW QUESTIONS:

1. How far East in Pennsylvania did you travel? I'm located in the extreme SouthEastern part of Pennsylvania. (Upper Darby)

2. Did it feel like you needed an "ass transplant" by the time you returned to California?

3. Do you think you'd ever do a trip like that again on a sportbike?

It's good to hear you returned safely and that you enjoyed your trip. Thanks for taking and sharing the pictures along the way. It was kind of exciting receiving "as you go" picture and trip info updates. (Like when we track UPS goodies we've ordered for our Busa's)

P.S. Really glad to hear you're not a "ZX12 convert" although it's way "A-O.K." to have enjoyed the ZX12 in whatever way possible. While it must have been a hoot to ride, I didn't think you'd actually leave us for a 12.

more info, fyi...

the ride was 2980 miles (without counting detours i took to tour attractions) start to finish.

i road a total of 8 days. 372.5 miles a day, including stops quite often, i road about 5-8 hours per day. i lost an entire day visiting pikes peak, and another half day taking the detour thru the parks as i went...

i took side swings thru independence pass up to aspen, downn the other side, down thru 9, and then on to the 15.

the 12r is a highly modified muzzy bigbore with a 1363 stroker kit, pfm brakes, ohlins suspension, carbon fiber body work, dymag carbon fiber rims, and a corbin seat, muzzy rearsets and tripleclamp, and pipe. it dynos at 206.

i got the ticket in colorado, as i came out of a very fast tunnel, with a curve in it. the cop was waiting just outside, and my radar didnt pick him up until it was too late. i didnt even have a license plate or registration, just my license (cali) and a pink slip. fast talking saved the day, thank god he was a sport bike rider too.
