Brock's clutch mod/cushion
« on: March 11, 2006, 07:55:05 AM »
I'm setting up my 05 for street and strip use. I really like the looks of Brocks ultra clutch mod. but am unsure about also adding the 'cushion' he offers. The bike will be completely stock engine and wheelbase, I will be lowered, strapped, 16 tooth front. I'm about 185lbs fully suited. If any other info would help, please ask.  Is a slave support required or not needed?                            Thanks, Rick B.

Slave support will need to be used with the heavier springs but i seriously suggest Motorheads case saver support.  The cushion works well for some people i know but i have never tried it...

I have a 05, and the way I understand it is that the newer bikes dont need the cushion. We need the HD springs and the clutch mod, and the slave support. The newer bikes already have a cushion of sorts built in. I may be wrong but I assume that is what the Cone washer on the bottom does.

hmmm not sure how the cushion would feel, but my clutch was never bad, just a little weak. Also was hard to get used to on the feel being hydro. What is does the difference feel like? Does it slip easier or just engage smother?

hmm mine is pretty smooth. Might have to check into this, first we have to see my clutch mod holds up haha  Made a jig and weilded it up myself, feels good so far, but only burn out launches.

The cushion has nothing to do with the welded part...

Ohh I know, sorry should have explained better. Want to make sure everything is gtg, since I weilded it up. If not I will have to order the light clutch cam from brock. I had it up to 10600 and no issues so far.

Is he running the cushion with brocks springs or hd ones?

I'm using the springs that come with the cushion (4 heavy, 2 super heavy).  I can't honestly say that there's much difference between the cushion and the stock setup, but I seem to go through clutches more often now...  I think I have some toasted ones now, in fact.  :(

George C,  Thanks for the input, thats what I was looking for. I was assuming 'cushion' related to 'slip' and i think you just confirmed that for me. I'm all stock at this point so I believe clutch frying shouldn't be a problem unless I go brain dead with the lever.   Thanks, Rick

I prefer the 02 and newer stock clutch set up with heavy springs and the clutch mod. I have a 2000, had the cushion and replaced it with the 02 clutch. I think I still have the cushion somewhere if you really want to try it a see the difference.

Cool thanks for the imput Big George, I think I am going to stick with the clutch mod and 3 HD springs and see how it goes. I never had a problem slipping the clutch, just always felt jerky and unnatural. I am hopeing the weilded slipper clutch will help with that.

Busa 58,     Thanks for the reply, are you using your bike street and track? If so how many passes have you put on it? street miles? Have you had to replace clutch plates?   Thanks, Rick

Well I believe theres a big difference in BDE cushion and stck cushion !
BDE feels much smoother and does not chatter at all...........!
Installed it in mine and saw the diffrence at once on the street and on the strip.

I would recommend you to buy the Clutch mod and cushion kit !
Att.....Molly !

Yeah, i ride on the street to but not alot..4000 miles..i have replaced the clutches..
put several passes on them..150-200 guessing?? the clutch lever is pretty stiff but
i got use to it.

Another guy uses the mod with stiffer springs and it works good to.
