IS it necessary to remove the rad or can you just unbolt it and move it foward?

pull the radiator, save yourself some grief.
get some 8 x 1.25 mm studs from a hardware store with nuts..loctite everything
this will save you from having to tighten your new header in a month.

the stock retainers are socket headed bolts. They are difficult to work with in a couple of locations holding on the header to the head.
Studs with nuts will hold better and are easier to work with. The Suzuki exhaust bolt is easy if you have pivoting metric allen  sockets.
You might want to research removing the pair valve while you are in there. This will require block off plates sold by most of the site sponsors.

Give yourself some time and take your time, it will go fine. :)

What do  you guys mean by "burp" the radiator?  I have topped it off before but not familiar with the term "burp".

Leave the cap off radiator and start the bike. Gently rock the bike back and forth, and you should see an air bubble burp out. Don't forget to do this as your bike will probably overheat if you don't.
