Starter Clutches
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:26:44 PM »
I am in the process of upgrading my 2000 to a 03 starter setup..

My question is they show a different part number for the starter clutchs between model year            03 #12600-24840 and model year 04 #12600-24850. I have a 04 cover and cap but what starter clutch do I need? My is bad so I just want to buy the right one.

Thanks

I will send you a copy of the Suzuki Technical Service Bulletin that lists the right combination for the Starter upgrade..

i did this on my 2000, changed everything, cover, idler gears, stater, starter-clutch, my bike cranked real slow. put it back with the titanium sleeve, all 2000 stuff, works great still.

I'm interested in buying your 2003 setup from you even if it didn't work for you.
Let me know ASAP.

Thanks
Chet

So I ordered up the #24840 starter clutch as per the TSB and guess what came instead of what I ordered the #24850. I guy at the local dealer told me it was the replacement for the older style starter clutch and said it would work. So I brought it home to compare it to the older style, I cant find anything that is different about the unit it looks the same, its the same size, and everything. I am still missing some parts so I can't start the motor yet so I don't know if it will work or not. Is there something that is different about this style starter clutch that you can't see? I just want to make sure before I start the motor and break something else.... somebody must know what the differences are.

thanks

the early style starter clutch has a chamfer or recess in the center where the bolt goes through. The later style is flat. If you look at them side by side you can tell the difference. What does it all mean.... The hell if I know!

ya I saw what your refering too...Being the bolt has a washer on it I don't see how that would make any difference. But who knows, they changed something unless they just wanted to use a new part number.

I'm still baffled...
