Shortening exhaust cans
« on: March 20, 2006, 10:03:15 PM »
Has anyone had any experience shortening exhaust CARBON FIBER exhaust cans? I had a skorpion slip on at one time that was shortened two inches that i liked..I can see this being easy enough but are there any particular problems i might face shortening my carbon Akro?

ok, here is a closeup  pic of the rivet and how much of the can I cut off. I cut off about 9 inches or so. I just used a hacksaw to cut mine off, wasn't to bad just gotta take your time and make sure you make an even  cut. The hardest part was getting the endcap back on  and finding where to drill the holes to rivet the cap on at but if you take your time it's no big deal. also my can is a yoshimura RS3 stainless. The rivets that I used were from ace hardware and are 3/16 inch diameter with a 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch grip range. And thanks NOLO263 for the idea of doing this. Love the sound

Well, I decided to join the gang with my Carbon Yosh oval!
One little tip is to cut the can with a 12" chop saw (I used a RIDGID 12" compound/sliding/mitre saw) with a 80 tooth blade. Cut it in a few seconds and straight as an arrow!
Here's a few pics... Oh BTW, it does sound nice (throaty and snappy)... I don't know why, but it does....
Here's a before/after of shorty and minus the decals....
