Woman in need of lowering her Busa
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:49:20 PM »
I'm a 5'3" 150 lb. woman that just bought a '06 Limited Busa and I am finding that the bike is just about 2"-3" too high for me.  I'm on my tip toes and would feel more secure being flat footed. My dealer said the rear shock bracket could be extended which would drop the bike 1 1/2' inches but could change the way the bike handles........Can someone tell me any other options that I may have.  I don't want the look or performance compromised anymore then I have to.  Are there seat options? combined with front and rear suspension mods?  Anyone that has experience or true knowledge about this please respond

3 hole dog bones for the rear, aftermarket triple tree for the front, you can take your seat to a upholstry shop and have them pull the cover off and "scoop" some of the padding off and put cover back on. look on ebay for parts

you could buy aftermarket lowering links for the rear,it will lower around 2-3 inches,it won't affect handling that much.they make aftermarket seats that will lower it about 1/2 inch or so.

Another vertically challenged  :D woman with exactly the same problem here.  Will I need a shorter sidestand also, and if so, whose do you recommend?  What is the advantage of the adjustable dog bones over the fixed? I think I read in the FAQs that you can raise the bars and lower the front with the Reaper kit.  I have super short arms, too, so I guess I have to somehow split the difference between lowering the front end and raising the bars.  What's the best way to day that?  Tobin is the seat to look for?

Sorry for all the questions.  Thanks for any info..  I'm in love with this bike, but I know from owning various litre bikes that lower is much easier and this beastie is 100+ lbs. heavier than my last sport bike--I am prepared to respect it and I need all the height advantage I can get.

you can have the forks cut slightly (internall lowering) this lessens the chance of bottoming out
and you can alway cut the seat your self i cut 3 inches out of mine and put stock cover back on

With cutting the forks, is this something that I could trust to a competent wrench at the dealership or is it more properly a job for a metal fabrication shop?
Thanks.

If anyone lives near Louisville KY I would be happy to let you sit on my bike. Its 1 inch lower in the front, 2 inches rear. I have a 32 inch inseam and can stand off the seat flat footed. The kick stand needs work, but anyone with a weilder can take care of yah.

Hey, thanks alot for all the info, I live near Tobin actually and he said that the seat should take care of most of the problem.
Would everybody agree for this to be my first step??

My opinion, lowering links are a must. (for your height and weight) Tobin will drop you an inch but with the seat width,  I would expect you not to have solid footing.  I rode like that for awhile and trying to back that bike in and out of parking spaces etc.  is not as easy thing without having both feet flat.  Either way good luck and I wish you a quick healing.

Lowering links for the rear and spacers in the front under the stock tripple and slide the fork tubes through or get a new tripple.  That and a seat will work.  My wife fits on my busa fine now.  Before she was on her tip toes.   Tobin is the man for the seat.  $125.  You can see how much it drops ya.

Yep, seat is the way to go.  Corbin also makes one that lowers about 1 and 1/2 inches.  It's not as good looking as the Tobin but it's another option.
