Ohh bloody hell here we go again my god man.
Look I run my car in the 16.1 range and get almost 4 mpg more then stock with over 250 more hp at the wheels, bigger turbos,
14.67 is Stoich when is chemically balanced to burn the most fuel for emmissions. You can lean a water cooled motor out alot more then that at low load cruise range. There are tons of articals writen about this, I have tested it on the bike and 15 ish range seems to be well for mpg.
Anyway Coop someone in the above posts asked what af ppl where running so I figured I would let them know. One day in the future I am going to set up a Test box to adjust AF on the fly and find a nice straight road to do some more testing. I am betting 15.5-15.8 will be a great target range, but wont know for sure till then.
Thanks Bro for the answer. Im learning as im testing, but this is what I have been told. You can run as high as 16.1 A/F at cruise and low load. The only time you need the A/F to drop down in the low 12s to high 11s is when you have a heavy load, like when applying boost.
Not wanting to sound like an idiot, but for those that are wondering or curious about A/F and how it affects your fuel millage. The higher the A/F 14.1-----15.1 etc.. The better your fuel economy will be. The lower it is, 12.1----11.5 the more fuel your burning, which translates to less MPG.
The problem Im having is the different types of fuels I find at different stations. SOme make my A/F run high, some make it run low. I found one station that has 10% ethyanol in it, and it made my A/F drop WAY down. I had it set close to 14.4- 15.1 at cruise. WIth the 10% ethynol, it dropped into the low 11.3 range. Im learning that the outside air temp affects the A/F also. It seems the hotter it is, the more fuel I have to back out to keep my fuel economy favorable.
I like looking at my data logger when I make a few testing runs. I'll be cruising along somwhere in the range of 14.5- 15.1 A/F, nail the shit out of it, I can see on the data logger when the scondairies come on line, the A/F drops down in the 12s. MAkes a warm fuzzy feeling to have a system that was mapped so well, that all I need to do so far is make Mix Trim adjustments across the hole fuel map to get the results I want. Richard at RCC got me headed in the right direction, so Im just expanding on what I learned from him.
