Exhaust Systems and Corbin BeetleBags
« on: June 21, 2006, 06:42:19 AM »
OK Busa experts.  I need some info from people who have done it or personally seen it - complete aftermarket exhaust systems with Corbin BeetleBags.  I want to be able to retain use of the Bags for trip use as me the wife usually take a MC vacation in September.  I should have paid more attention at VIR last year when I saw several examples, but I wasn't in the market then for an exhaust system.  It appears that any muffler that mounts where the stocker does (DUH) will work.

Your Input appreciated.  This is also on the general discussion board but I've not gotten any replies yet.

ive seen HMF dual low mounts on a busa with beetle bags.

The Poison Idea- TMH T61 Ultra kit (500+ hp), 3-deg frame rake, BST wheels, Speigler 8-pot calipers and masters, Mac 0-6 arm, full CF body work.

Thanks BoneDust.  Hope some other examples have been seen out there as HMF are not my first choice.  I e-mailed Corbin too, but so far no answer.

the stock pipes are pretty big, i think as long as you dont buy an odd shaped can it should be fine. d+d' have a nice small round can, im sure they would fit as well.

Finally got my bike last Friday from the local dealer, where it spent an extended period of time after being stolen - mostly waiting on the insurance checks and parts (THX to State Farm for the $$$).  Anyways, had the chance to actually lay hands on the bike again, made some measurements and photographed my clearance issues.  The top of the stock pipe to the nearest point on the stock turn signal housing is 2.25 inches at the closest point and the air gap between the stock muffler can and the Corbin BeetleBag is about 0.5 inch, from one end to the other.  Will post my digital photos if I can (NO prior photo posting experience) and if helpful to either my bags or center stand clearance issues.

Therefore, if anybody out there has full exhaust systems, particularly the BDE Gen III StreetSmart or the Akropovic Evo, and still has the stock turn signals, please measure the closest distance between your muffler and the stock turn signal housing and post same; close up side and/or rear photos also appreciated.

Brock at BDE says the center stand won't work, but Busa Tamer (another board?) says it will.  Brock was unsure about the Bags; I've just emailed him the measurements. Is there that much variability in how you bolt these systems up?
