Thought you ALL would like some info gathered from dyno tuning/testing a 14 recently.........

This bike had 3K miles.....ALL STOCK except Muzzy full system.....and 10W30 synthetic.....I do NOT have a baseline with stock pipe....

The bike made 184rwhp/110ft-lbs on mobil super.....For comparison most Busa's I dyno make ~170rwhp/102ft-lbs on mobil super....The most noticable difference was in the TORQUE available....you could actually "take off" in 1st on the dyno using NO throttle if you wanted.

Now for some interesting info......

The bike appears NOT to have gear dependant maps.....I do not believe Kaw is retarding the ignition in the lower gears to control power......THEY ARE DOING IT WITH THE SECONDARY BUTTERFLIES

IF YOU DO BACK TO BACK PULLS IN 4TH THEN 5TH YOU WILL SEE A LARGE INCREASE IN POWER FROM 3K TO 5.5K RPMS(like 20 hp)....DUE TO THE SECONDARY BUTTERFLIES OPENING SOONER.

The fuel map is NOT different for 4th and 5th....showing a lean surge when the secondaries open.....

This bike will respond to Ivan's TRE favorably.....since the maps are not gear dependent(IMO), the TRE will ONLY effect the opening rate of the secondaries.....providing a large boost in power from 3-5.5k rpms.....

However....This increase may be TOO MUCH to control consistently for dragstrip launches with stock wheel base.....

I was working with Brock on his 14 earlier this week and my findings concur with his testing.....His personal bike has made low 190's rwhp on MR9 with his pipe.....I expect the BDE Hindle to make several more HP than the Muzzy I tested, that combined with the MR9, lightweight oil etc should put most 14's into the 190 rwhp for REAL....not "internet" HP.

For those seeking more info on these findings I think Brock has posted them on "bikeland.org"....

Awesome numbers.
What's your opinion on removing the secondary butterflies without remapping? Too lean?

Great numbers.  That thing really puts it down.  It seems to do awesome with just an exhaust on it.

The late model Kaws all seem to respond well to a simple exhaust change.  They are fairly well gagged up with the stock exhaust...

THE MOTORHEAD ...

Can someone post a Dyno Chart side by side with the ZX-14 and Hayabusa. How is the Hayabusa Low and Mid-range HP compared to ZX-14?

Do you have to wind it up in RPMs to get it to pull or does it pull like a Busa as soon as you give it alittle gas?

If you do a 2mm Bore to a ZX-14 will it raise its CC to 1400cc+ and can It be done?

How's to Turbo Quest? Has anyone found a way to Turbo the Beast w/o cutting the frame?

Questions, Questions...

The average price of the ZX-14 is $15k in SW Florida LOL..... FRUCK THAT

Mannnnn, those numbers seem very high for the stock / piped Kaw.  The numbers that you posted for the Busa also seem high. Could it be the type of dyno you are using?

The DJ 250 I use is average on HP readouts IMO.... A stock Busa will make ~152-155...stock 1K 155-159 etc...The numbers I obtain are a result of knowing HOW TO TUNE from 15 years of dyno tuning experience....thus your/your tuners results will probably be less....

The most I have got from a stock Busa is 174rwhp on pump with no air filter......tire/chain/etc all add up in the end...

The 184rwhp from the 14 was the highest.....it averaged in the 183rwhp range consistantly. Remember it had 3K miles...so it was broken in also...

Brock's makes over 190 consistently on MR9 and 0 weight oil and his pipe........

The torque is stronger everwhere on the 14....esp down low....

For the disbelievers in the crowd.....I am only sharing REAL info from MY OWN TESTING for your use. These bikes respond to simple mods very well. Kaw has done their homwork this time very well.....It only took them 5 years....LOL

However it sounds ideal for highway runs with some certain "bikekiller" cars out there.  yes
