4th gear issue with Nitrous
« on: July 28, 2006, 06:51:49 PM »
Ok here is the set up,
16/45 gearing for the 1/8th.
Stock bore,
extended about 5.5 over,
shinko regular 003 tire,
strapped,
air shifter,
Tech box for enrichment,
#36 jet with a fan nozzle in middle,
small air box mod with BMC filter
and muzzy exhaust.

I weigh about 225 with full leathers

Launching OK with  a 1.55 to 1.62 60 foot.  But when down track will not shift into 4th while spraying, no indication of spinning that I can tell. I have set kill time to max and still happens.

This week I set gearing to 16/40 and spun as soon as I hit the spray (in second) all the way through to the finish (ended up in 6th one time ).  I like the 16/45 gearing cause I suck at launching (the truth doesn't hurt) I am going with a new tire soon, but wondered if anyone experienced the same?

Thaks for any ideas.

Matt

Need to do the Turbo/NOS mod to the shift drum.

It only does this with spray though, you think that it could still be the fork?

Thanks for your help

The problem is by the time you are in 3rd- 4th-5th gear on spray the electrodes on the plugs are glowing and causing pre- ign. detonation, you can either pull more timing out of the bike( will slow down) or take some nos away ( smaller jet).be very careful,we are working on a solution, hopefully we can have one very soon.

Awesome timing, (no pun intended) I just dropped the jet size down, moving from center spray to ram tube as well.

Update, I went to 17/45 gearing .
Replaced #36 jet with #30  (kept in middle but made a holder to raise it up a bit ( sort of like rice ya plate)
WOT swith actication
New 003 tire.
Test on Tuesday night

I'll post my results.

Thanks

Not great. Can't launch , seems clutch hand just has a mind of it's own. First run when the Nitrous came on, pulled the front up fast and I let off and sucked that run,
It was so hot I got frusrtated and packed up. May just run the thing without  Nitrous, may just sell the NOS system.

Yeah I've cooled down now, think I'll keep and try it again when it cools off outside. Just get frustrated when I get worse instead of better. I've reached a plateau and want to get over it.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

love to see the look on peeps faces when your 9.70 @ 145 turns into a 9.699 @ 155
seems people get more aw outta trap speeds then et at the strip  :?

That's very true I noticed that the spectators get into the MPH where us riding look more toward the ET. But I noticed in the 1/8 th a pretty good pick up on the ET with just a few on the MPH. I'll keep at it, if I would just stop messing with the set up long enough to get used to it, I would know where I stand. But I have to tinker all the time, so that is the way it goes
