Crank Work
« on: August 15, 2006, 11:32:17 AM »
Crank arrived today. 10 day turn around :D :!: from Falicon. Very nice work, Crank had been done prior by another well known shop with there "lightned crank package" which had no polishing, etc. I beleive the only weight that had been removed from Shop#1 was the counter balancer. Falicon removed about 2 1/2 more lbs. Very happy!

Rick,
You have some major  exhaust valve to piston contact, your exhaust cam is off or you are floating valves.

Yes, I noticed that when I pulled the head the last builder apparently did not set check the ptv clearance very well. Strange the motor went 23k hard miles on the 1070 and consistently made the hp within 1-2 on different dynos ran fine until I got greedy with some methonal :x Live n learn...sure was fun though.

Different builder this time that has many more motors and years of experience not that is a 110% guarantee but factored in the decesion who to go with.

True lighter cranks = less tq,  not a concern as I seldom go to the strip and now that they closed the local track there is no way with the hours I work do I want too drive the 2-4 hours to Gainesville or Valdosta.

We have plenty of long, straight, flat backroads around here to get in trouble and exploit the outer limits :P

Head work and cams and 1mm larger intake, stock exhaust valves I'm  guessing mid 90's on the tq. Should give me a grin when I open it up :D

it's just a hobby for me that helps keep my 47 yr old mind young

Looked at that Steve awhile back. I think it was  Matt at DBD posted on Psychobike lots of machining required to match, would have to swap out ecu's, wiring etc.

ANY PROGRESS....POST UP SOME PICS...

Nothing much new to report. I don't bug the builder, let him do his work. So far have been pleased with the turn around time besides it's his $$ out there he don't get until the work is done. The last call now the crank is back from Falican was going to measure for the bearing size's too order. When they come in along with the Carillo rods are off for some coatings.  Went with CP Pistons this time, moly coated and were in transit to Millenium and should be there this week. The block I guess they need the pistons before they do the cyl coating. CP specs say 1078cc maybe a typo I dunno. The block is okay. The head has not been started on, some unknowns with the coating lead time but still on track for October. Too fricking hot and humid this time of the year to enjoy riding in gear anyway-Floridia is not the paradise apparently the many new residents think it is except from Nov-Feb and April/May the rest of the time sucks to me

This is not my head but another 01 1k with the mild Yosh stage 1 cams and 1070 pistons,1 mm o/s intakes the builder did.  My head will be similar with better cams etc. Will post a before and after pic of my head when done.

Sure, I wanted too last time ride we met but only JR wanted too play :D The bike was running very strong on the first half of that ride. Were you skeered?

Win or lose all good and fun :D I don't take this stuff too seriusly always will be someone faster, lighter, better bike, rider etc. I am more into the mods really.

I think that ride was when the motor went south. The water leaking at the Shell station and not coming from the raditor or hoses, the hard starting  and running kinda rough. That is why I went home. Heard you guys had some fun on the rest of the ride.

JR said it best..engines always puke when they seem to be running the strongest :(

No don't recall that but we split up in two groups and were spaced out quite a bit must have been than. Still thought you would want to run me. I know I can't compete with the busa cc's and aeros on top end ultimately will pull away unless you have lots of teeth on the rear.

I will PM you when I get it back and a few miles on it.

I prolly will change back to the stock 17/42 was 16/44. I should be about 15 lbs lighter too. Was 196, goal is 180, this morning 191. A little exercise in this heat and burn er sweat the pounds right off. Can't have no tummy roll flapping on the gas tank
