Pics of my first trackday
« on: August 18, 2006, 10:24:45 AM »
All I can say it wow. I have been riding for 21 year and learned more yesterday then I have in the last 10 years. Kirk was right the cases do hit the ground. I hit the staor cover once and the right lower twice.

That's great.  I just did my 1st track day on monday.  I didn't drag any parts yet.  But I did use all of both tires and that was far more than I thought I was capable of.

I ran 10lbs of boost most of the day.   I had two pucker moments.  One time nearly parked it in the swamp off turn 1, after clicking it into 5th gear on the straight after my brake marker.   2nd time had a big 3rd gear wheelie coming onto the front straight.

Turbo bikes may not be made specificly to rail but I had a great time.   I'll be updating my stock front end this winter and going back out next year.  I'll never be fast but I hope to make it into the advanced group next year.

I have done lot's of track day's on multiple busa's. You need to set up your suspension before you hit the track. If you do this you shouldn't be dragging any part's. Also, if you get off the bike, a little further you won't have to worry about scratching your baby anymore!Just  my .02

Great pics bro.

I am looking at doing one pretty soon at Willow too.

I have pushed as far as I can on the street - I am sliding both tires all over the place, I have a 1/8" strip left on the rear tire (what's up with the front? there is more yet on it).

I wanna go fast!

Well ok, I wanna go a bit faster than I am now, without wadding up on the street.  8)

Just did a track day at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) and it was the most fun I've had at the track. Turn 1 is an eye-opener at 130mph, can't imagine what it's like to take it at 180mph like the pros do...........

Cool pics, guys!!!

It was our first track riding experience and the school is top notch.
We left the track and she was like"   let's buy some used bikes and make them track bikes!!!  "

Not exactly. There is no "setting" that you can do that's going to make the front end okay- you need the correct front springs in it, period. The stockers are downright unsafe. I wouldn't recommend doing anything more than the slow group on a track day if you still have stock front springs in your Hayabusa.

And once you do get your suspension correct, it still doesn't prevent you from dragging hard parts. It just raises the speed at which it happens. I had Dave Hodges of GP Suspension re-spring and re-valve both ends of my Hayabusa Superbike, and I was still dragging the stator cover and the fairing.

You are correct about body position. Due to the excessive width of the Hayabusa's engine, your body position needs to make the most of the limited ground clearance that is available:

This guy I know named Kirk told me to jack up the back of the Busa for a bit more clearance, it really helped!  8)
(actually he told me a lot of good stuff - thx again buddy)

I also ordered up GSXR 1000 footpegs and they give More legroom if your are 6'4" like me, it helps.

My knee comes down a couple degrees before I drift the rear tire and/or drag hard parts so I know everytime I am getting real close to "critical mass":

First trackdays then Road Racing.  The HayaBusa is a blast at both.  I won the ASMA (AM) Unlimited SuperStock class for 2006 on my Busa.
Don't let anyone tell you the Busa can't corner.

Great pictures! I'm looking forward for my 1st Track Day in 2008.

I was wondering if you guys could share a bit more of your experience. How was the busa on the track? Did it handle well?
Suspension, brack fading, etc...

Thanks!!! :thumb:

In order of MOST importance;

Sticky Tires
suspension upgrades
upgraded brakes
...
..
..

It will handle just fine, especially if you're new. Even though it's a big bike, it still takes a lot to get it over enough to start scraping fairings. For you're 1st time, just go in the beginner class. If you're fast enough, they may kick you out and upgrade you to intermediate.

Make sure your brakes have plenty of pad, and have the fluid flushed and replaced before hand. Get your suspension set up before you go, if stock, take ALL THE WAY to hard settings on shock and top (compression, needes wrench) of fork. For right now, set up rebound and pitch (uses flat head screw driver) about 3-4 clicks from full hard.

(if you haven't flushed/replaced your fork fluid and it's been more than 2 years, now would be a good time to do it before you go)

You'll have fun, but be prepared. You want the bike running top notch when you get there. You'll have to take the mirrors off, and duct tape the lights (and disconnect them). Other than that, have a blast. It will single handedly lift you to a much higher competence level than any thing else, no matter how many years you've been riding.
Take off like a 13, flick it like a 6
