ZX-12R on spray @ Bonneville
« on: October 04, 2006, 01:15:07 PM »
As many already know I took my 12 out to Bonneville this year.  Stock motor, dry shot of nitrous.

It took a day to edit the video since I've never edited a video before, quality is a little low due to helmet cam AND having to compress it to fit the 100MB limit.

Enjoy

JTM:  Yeah you can see in the video I was hesitant w/the clutch hand on certain shifts....I was sure I needed to shift but that time around I didn't spin as much so I kept putting my fingers back on the bars, lol.  I did run 1200psi ... but really I could barely feel it w/a 10 mph headwind!  I swear I coulda gone 215 with the right gearing on that tailwind run!  I kept having to get off the button @ 12,000-12,100 rpms in dicated, limiter @ 12,200!

Adding some HP is right....I'll be tapping some more of VH's brain soon as he is local....thinking about going

BIG

with nitrous ! ! ! instead of turbo...I'd have to sell my geo, toyota, gixxer and cbr just to almost afford it....I'll work my way up $ and HP wise!

I'd like to see if I could get 220 MPH with close to 300 RWHP in the mile and @ Bonneville.

It is POSSIBLE as Dave O has demonstrated he can get it done with 240ish hp busa....

but the 12...with its aeros....and Dave's superior tuck and tweaks....

We'll see.  I guess it depends on what class I'm running in @ Maxton....if it ends up being the same class as VH I would bet he'd be a little tight lipped.....

Peace!

I have never been able to keep my mouth shut! :D:D

The #1 thing I need to do is not be Greedy!

#2, the class I run is the people have seemed to leave alone so the Bar for the 200 MPH Club is within reach!

You do need the 5 pound bottle at least and even stock you can handle a 60 Shot! I would make a lot more base HP if I used an .080 base spacer as opposed to the 0.100 I use. If I get my trash worked out then I will let you see all of it. otherwise I do not want to Contamminate your thinking

Fair enough

For the record I'm shying away from a bored motor on big spray.  Seems like the gains from the HP aren't worth the reduced structural integrity of the cylinder walls, especially @ High Temps, High MPH, High HP, High Torque, high everything!  So lower comp pistons or lower the comp w/spacers.  Either way have the head, especially the exhaust side done, a big fat progressive wet shot, and by then I'm sure I'll need a custom swingarm, braced with about 3 or so more inches...don't want it too long, takes away from the fun

Ali,

When you need pistons I would be happy to hook you up with the best price, after all Guys old bike ran 228+ with them, Joe Amos bike ran over 225+ (for over a mile with them) and the quickest and fastest Nitrous bikes run them at the drag races.

Good luck at Maxton next month!

Tell Sal I said hello..

Hey J.  Saw you briefly @ BUBS last month but you seemed kinda busy

I will keep what you said in mind.  For sure I will need stronger pistons, headwork too, as well as a few other things when going big with nitrous.  I'd like to see just how well I can hang with the big boys.....ooooh boy.....wheelspin in 6th....yay!

Hey thanks Jon, I appreicate that.  Was gonna go turbo to see if I could break the 250mph barrier ever on the 12.  Considering the costs, next year I'm settling for big nos and 220 mph.
