The vintage Bonnevilles looked a bit better, and do sound a lot better than the new T100's....but the new bike is VASTLY superior to the old limey classic in every other way, especially overall reliability. (and by the way....the 65' 'Bonnie' is moocho-cooler than the 66')

Not everyone wants the same Jap crap all the time  :thumb:

New Triumphs are kin cool and they are still Triumphs.
The old ones are just museum pieces and many hours of spanner time to keep em running half decent.

Thanks to John Bloors vision, one man, we all still have something different and very good to aspire to.

The Rocket 3 is brilliant, the new 675 Daytona is tops, the new Speed Triple is mental,
the new Speed four is a beaut ! The new Bonnie is a much much better bike than the 60s version.
Take a look at the Bonnie in all black or the classic two tone paint jobs.

Park your Bonnie amongst all the plastic fantastics at the next bike meet and see how much attention it gets?
I have no more sh*ts to give.

The new scrambler makes 45  hp from 900 ccs and weighs 100 pounds more than the '60's version.
I used to race a 1965 Bonneville TT special and I was gettin more than 45 bhp.
That is pathetic.

Yeah and we had real full fat 5 star gasoline and bikes didnt have catalitic converters and the weight of them.
They didnt have fuel injection and emmissions control systems. They had shite brakes and suspension,
they had narrow hard rubber tyres that lost traction easily, they broke down all the time, the spewed oil
all over your boots each time you went out, bits fell off and parts broke with the engine vibration, the Lucas
electrics went wrong often, the bulbs used to blow, they wouldnt start, you ahd to carry a tool kit and spares
and know how to fit them roadside, they stopped working in the rain, they rusted, you had to modify them
to make them work properly, they spat the exhaust headers out.....

Price of progress?

It wouldnt stop me having some real British iron all the same  :thumb:   you know me and British bikes!!

45 hp from 900 cc is PATHETIC.
Duc gets 75 from 1000cc while meeting the same regs.
A well tuned Manx Norton of 1950 made more than 45 hp from only 500 cc's.
45 hp is embarrassing.
You will get beat by a fat ass on a Harley!

Triumph are fully capable of getting more than 45bhp out of the 900cc twin.
The bike is very much "in the style of" the 60s bikes, or rather an interpretation of them.
Its the same power plant as in the new Thruxton, so it is capable of giving more power.

Not eveything revolves around cubes and power ya know

Mind you new Harleys leak oil like the old 50s Brit bikes

I have it on good authority here that the Speed Triple is a total hooligans bike.

I would take the vintage Bonneville and plant it in my living room in all it's asthetic splendor for everyone to admire and wax nostalgic over........then I'd go ride the wheels off of the new T100. I've ridden two of them now, and granted, they ain't no rocket, but both were excellent retro-styled motorcycles, and most of all, were fun to ride. :drink:

Raw horsepower isn't everything. Consider that at 45 rwhp and around 500 lbs, the T100 is still much better off than a 1600cc Vulcan at about 55-60 rwhp and 700+ lbs. And yet, SOMEHOW!, there's a lot of happy 1600 Vulcan owners out there. Go figure!

And actually, a T100 rider won't  get beat by a 'fat ass' on a Harley if the 'fat ass' is mounted on a Sportster 883 (or probably even the 1200)....both absolutely magnificent examples of large displacement gutlessness that weigh even more than the T100....and are butt-ugly to boot and cost more to buy.

Let's go after Sportsters rather than Triumph's 'retro-twins', makes a LOT more sense.

The modern Triumphs are something of a 'niche' machine, but nobody can convince me that they're junk.

You 'got me' there, I'll have to admit that 75 from 1000cc's is slightly less pathetic than 45 from 900.
