#40 Jet dry kit horsepower question
« on: October 17, 2006, 10:00:39 PM »
I have my dry kit installed on my busa. Bought the billet piece off a member here on the boards to center mount my nozzle in the airbox. I have a NX dry nozzle with a slit in the side (Fanner?). .063 orifice solenoid. -4 supply line. On the dyno ,once I got my syphon tube issue worked out, the bottle was roughly @ 800 pounds maybe more. The most horse it squeezed out was 202.4 and 113 ft/lbs. Air fuel was tuned to 12 to 1 (tuner wanted it fat). Stock horse was 159. Any ideas why my numbers seem down from what I've been reading on the boards? Only thing I can think of is my jet isn't right.

With a 40 jet at 800psi you are right on point.  Heat the bottle to 900

Its a 2.5 lb bottle. I'm not exactly sure if my bottle pressure was higher or not. I know it was at least 800. The only gauge I have on it is the POS gauge on my regulator for my air shifter. Does 100 PSI make that much difference in power? I know that if its down around 500 PSI then thats no good.

My buddy has an 06 Busa and with the #40 jet he made 214 hp/146 torque. He was just using an MPS Fast fi box and BMC air filter. Stock pipes and no Power commander. Bottle pressure was between 950-1000 psi. A/F was nice and fat at 10:1 on the spray. Here's the dyno sheet:

It's definitely your bottle pressure. 800 psi is not enough...bump it up! He has since put a #44 jet in there and got 220hp/153 tq and still with a rich a/f ratio.

Well Crap. There are only 2 more races this year at my local track. This wed and next. Not enough time to get a bottle warmer and good pressure gauge lined up. My bottles in my tail so I don't want to torch it. Plus with no good pressure gauge my luck would be I'd burst the rupture disc. I've got a #44 jet in the cabinet at home though :D. Oh well at least I will get some passes this year on the bottle before I have to put it up.

Edit:
Just looked closer at your buddies graph because mine made a 136 ft/lb run one of the pulls but it was because the back tire spun on the dyno. Looks like his bike is hitting a lot sooner than mine too. I'm not spraying till 7,000 RPMS

you must have a 2lb bottle,a 2.5 won't fit in the trunck

not exactly a cure all,but tapeing a few of those hand/feet warmer packets on the bottle will help a little

2 lb bottle

59 degrees,760 lb's

2 packets
3 hours later,55 degrees,860 lb  not bad for 66 cents  :)

I traded subframes with a guy who went turbo on his busa. He modded the subframe to hold the bottle. I promise its a 2.5 lb bottle in my bike right now. I have both a 2 and a 2.5 bottle. The base of the bottle is down by my tail lights and the neck is over where my tool pouch goes. It was the trickest mount I'd ever seen for a busa. The bottle sits at a perfect angle for the syphon. Everything is good and solid because it part of the frame.

You can also use a travel baby bottle warmer.  They cost $5 from babies R us and are 12v

If you ride in a colder climate (like where I do) then it wouldn't be a bad idea to run a couple jet sizes bigger to make up for the loss in bottle pressure. That's if you don't have a bottle heater though...

How did you have your siphon tube positioned so that it gets good pickup?

I'm guessing the siphon tube was removed.

thats a 2 pounder isn't it?

you can fit a 2 pounder in the hump with a tiger tail.

2.5 lbs

and the  tube  was curved to kinda like this

That's what I thought. I tried that on my buddy's Busa with the Tiger mount but it didn't seem to pick up the nitrous that well so we put it in the swingarm finally.
