front sprocket removal help
« on: October 20, 2006, 08:40:44 PM »
I cant loosen my front sprocket nut no matter what I try.  I have large breaker bar, air gun and also tried cussing it off, etc..  Anyone have any good advice?  I researched the topic on this site and tried all the suggested.

Also be careful with the thing that looks like a nut with the notches in it that comes off when you remove the allen screw, looks like a nut for cotter pin use. It is how the speed sensor gets it's impulses, If you bend it or break it you may destroy the speed sensor. Thare may also be a washer that is bent up around the sprocket nut, if so don't forget to bend the tab down so nut will come off.

i JUST got done changing out my front/rear sproket and OMG it was a bitch!  i did all the same things u did, breaker bar just helped me lift the bike off the stand and/or just spun the tranny.  i got an electric impack gun from a friend, didnt have an air on, and  it was rated at 175 ft lbs.  well, after a GOOD 4 mins of just cosntatly on that front nut, u can tell the nut was moving but by a fraction of a millimeter,  it finally started to let loose and then just spun right off.  good luck with this dude, i NEVER wanna do that 1 again.

Thanks for all the help.  My front sprocket remains unchanged.  When I get time I will regroup and retry. I have not given up.
