2.5lb bottle refill?
« on: November 14, 2006, 07:11:48 PM »
So today drop off my 2.5 lb bottle at a new fill station and go pick it up later that evening.Guy..... charges me $10 dollars and says no way to refill my bottle that he just lost more than the $10 dollars he's charging me... trying to fill my bottle.

So ,I say WTF are you talking about? ....do you know how to do a refill?
I snatch the bottle and walk out......then he tells me to bring a bigger bottle 10lbs or larger and use that to fill smaller one.
What's the deal with that? if this were true then all the 1lb'er 12oz bottle would need the same?
Is this guy a for real or what?

Crossfeed?.... can you explain how to's

I know i'll need a scale to weigh before and after and raise pressure on bigger bottle to feed/fill smaller one,but....not 100% sure on the rest.

Normz can you put a pressure gauge on the little bottle and fill it to a certain psi? Kinda like OXy and Argon.

Went to a diff place today KC Choppers in Portchester NY and refill'd both 10lber and 2.5lb'er just fine. First guy/place was definately a tool/not qualified.

Will be trying that big  bottle to little bottle transferas soon as weather clears.

if you overfill these bottles when too much heat gets to them they will blow the pressure relief valve i freeze my bottle put them on a scale and zero the scale then use the big bottle valve to control flow and fill the bottles to there weight (2lbs of nos to 2lbs bottle, 1lbs of nos to 1lbs bottle) all day long from a 80lbs bottle and store them in my trailer when its 100' outside and no problems with over pressure

whats the empty weight of a 2lb bottle? Instead of emptying it, I just want to top it off.

I used to do the same thing. Fill the 10 lb bottle and then refill the 2.5lb from it. Throw the small bottle in the freezer for a little while and then run a line to the two bottles. would fill the 2.5lb bottle up no problem. When the 10lb bottle got maybe 1/2 empty, I would then warm the big bottle up some and it would still fill my small cold bottle.

yea that works out nice. a couple weeks ago i was getting my 2 lb. bottle filled and someone had a 20 lb. bottle there on consignment. it was full and they only wanted $100 for it with a gauge and fill line fitting already on it. thats $80 worth of nitrous. I couldn't pass it up. :thumb:

smuggle some nitrous across the pond as well - I pay £8 a lb here - that's $16 at current rates. Although the last place using a pump charged me £5 = $10 and I thought that was nicely cheap.

there should be no issue to fill a bottle weather it is a 9oz. or a 10lb bottle sit on a scale and when it is full it is full most pumps will stop pumping when the bottle will not take any more by there self, but is better when the bottle temp is lower the over all bottle pressure will get pretty high if the bottle is real warm like around 80-100 degree

I rode my bike to the track yesterday. 1 hour and 15 min. one way. Then made 5 passes and rode home. It was hot as hell, my ass was sore, waa, waa, waa. Anyway, while taking a little breather in between passes. I decide to spray it next pass. I turn the bottle on and peak at the gauge which is under the tank. Oh shit, its in the yellow. about 1300 psi. I scurried to borrow a wrench to crack the line and bleed off some juice. I just sold my purge a couple days ago. I hope thats workin out for ya Rick. What psi will the disc burst at?

Supposed to be a 3000psi disc in there.. have had a couple blow at just over 1500+ but I think they were old discs(old or "well used" bottles get debri build up in them from setiment if they haven't been serivced). I now clean and service bottles  and valves and keep new discs on hand(and I replace if at all in question or if I am about to fill a used bottle I'm not familiar with).

Working very well... :thumb:
I was going thru same, having to carry 15mm wrench in back pocket...to crack open line.
until i install'd purge much easier Now,for sure.
Have had selenoid stick plenty of times because of high pressures.
I think,Burst disc will blow at 3000 psi.

BTW, The selenoid in the Kit was a pro flow Nitrous version,Much better than regular purge selenoid that is usually supplied with thier purge kits. So i swap'd selenoids.
