front axle nut tool (pics)
« on: November 21, 2006, 02:57:45 PM »
I had some extra time at work today. I'm a cnc machinist and have access to a few mills.

So, after looking for a tool to remove the axle nut on the front of my '03 busa, I figured that I'd make one.

Well, one turned into three. I'm calling them my prototype-homemade tools.

I'm not positive yet, but I may be able to make more. I know that I can make them for alot cheaper than the $30-$40 ones that I found online. I'm not out to make a million, but would like to help out my fellow busa owners.  I'm not for sure, but it might work on the gsxr's as well.

The end that goes into the hex on the bike is 24mm. The opposite end is 19mm, so that you can put a socket or wrench on it.

I'm not positive on how many I can make yet. But if I can make a bunch more, I was think of something like $10-$15 plus shipping. I think that would probably about cover my costs.

I will definitely keep everybody posted.  I'm on vacation from work until Monday, woohoo, but I will do more checking when I get back there.

Thanks for the interest. I'm just trying to help others out.

I'll definitely keep everybody updated. I'll try to keep a list of who is interested and let you know what I can do.

I made the first few out of steel.  I'm not sure about making them out of aluminum.  I would have to use billet and I dont know how much that would cost, but I might check into it. Plus I think that the steel is more durable, its a little heavier, but I believe more stable.

Thanks again guys.

hey guys-

sorry it took me so long to get back.  I got busy with work last week and vacation over the holiday.

If anybody is still interested, I made a few more. I'm not out to make a bunch of money, but I was thinking $15 shipped. This should cover my costs.

I'll see how many more I can make and let you guys know as I make them.

Just PM me if you want them.

Thanks.

$0.83

http://www.suzukihayabusa.org/forum/index.php?topic=61597.0

I Tried this and yours must have been way out of spec cuz a standard 5/8 long nut still has to be milled to fit a 04 busa.
Outcast
PS it still saved me buying a tool cuz i milled it my self

I bought the coupler nut from Home Depot. I don't remember what size of threads it was for but the outside is 24mm and fits perfectly. I think it was a buck and a half or something like that. I can use either a 24mm or 15/16 wrench on it.

Edit: I just stopped in at Home Depot and it's a 5/8" coupler nut and it sells for $3.16.

Then it must be from a different supplier or they changed the spec.  The key is to get a 15/16 OUTSIDE DIMENSION coupling nut.

I gave a 5/8" nut(15/16" wrench size) to Dave for someone at Maxton last meet(maybe you Walt?), which I believed worked ok? Anyways, then I just welded a 3/8" nut(3/4" wrench size) to it for use here for Deb's services etc(fits the swingarm also).
Personally, I'd rather buy the one from Jon here then drive to Home Depot for that price... it's a very nice peice he's made there(and if they're $15 I'll take another just to put one in the race trailer for whoever may need it). Personally I'd like mine steel and the input end being a 14mm rather then 19mm, but either way would be fine though.

No it wasn't me Todd.

And it is a nice piece.  I would buy one from him too bcause of the multiple uses, but I already bought a commercially made one that was designed for dirt bikes.

Looking forward to seeing Deb tear it up on her new toy in April.
