Where the money I don't have goes...
« on: November 28, 2006, 09:04:56 PM »
It's time for the rebuild!
My bike has 25,000 mi. and using a little oil.
So I decided to rebuild it myself.

This is the first time I've rebuilt a Hayabusa engine and it's the first time in a long time that I rebuilt an engine period!
But I feel pretty comfortable with my mechanic skills. I've read the shop manual and Tech's turbo install instructions a billion times.

So I dig in.

Now there was now way I was going to tear this bike down, fix the oil problem and go back stock. I knew that since the first time I noticed it using oil.

I decided to go with a Ghetto Stage 1 Turbo, .08 base spacer, HD valve springs, ape adj. cam gears, pro mod studs and super HD clutch springs.

First thing I did was to put a Tial BOV on the plentum as it did not come with one.

Then, when I got all of my parts in, I tore the bike down.

So this is where I stopped for tonight.

What is good to use to clean up the pistons and the head? ...red scotch brite and degreaser???

I just put the adj. cam sprockets on. That was easier than what I thought.  :thumb:

Got a lot of work done this weekend.
Got the pistons cleaned up and new rings installed.

Here's a side by side comparo of stock head bolt and the pro mod studs.

Then the hardest part was putting the cylinder on. But I got it.

Here is my cylinder head work bench! My wife had no problems with it! Merry Christmas!

Here's a side by side comparo of stock valve springs (on right) and APE HD valve springs (on left).
I didn't read the note inside one of the springs until I had all of the intake valves in that said the springs only go in on way.
Sooo,I took all the intake valves back out to check to see if I put them in right and I had put 2 in wrong. Love instructions!!!!

Here's the head assembly all cleaned up and ready to re-install.
It's amazing what a little wire brush and a lot of patience can do!

So here it is when I stopped for the night.

I pick up my cams from the machine shop tomorrow, had the hubs weld on, and begin timing the cams to 105/105.

For not having built and engine in 15 years, I don't think I'm doing too bad!

They're a Mustang perfomance shop down the street from me. They drag their feet, but they do good work.
They welded my cams too.

I need to buy a tig welder...

It's time for some maintenance and it's time to turn it up!  :trb:
Gonna replace the plentium boots, fuel lines, fuel filter, and the oil return hose.
Do the ZX-Alan fuel pump mod.
Install water injection.
Crank it up from 6# to 10 #!
And try to fabricate some sort of catch can for the oil breather.

Today I installed the Aquamist system, check the video below!
I added a dummy light to tell me when it's on but because Aquamist engineers are backwards, the light goes off when the mist is on.

Changed out wastegate springs from the red to the yellow.

And safety wired the oil drain plug and filter. I couldn't get a good shot of the plug.
