AIR RIDE QUESTION
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:58:19 PM »
I am always looking for less expensive  ways to do things. I am interested in putting some type of  air ride set up on my 2000 busa. I was wondering if anyone has any affordable ideas for putting some type of air ride set up on a busa. I was thinking about using  some type of air shock that I could  mount in place of the stock shock that is there now. I am open to any suggestions.

yes, i have pieced my entire system together.  you can buy air cylinders but i went the route of having a custom one made for the sake of how much i wanted to lower and raise my bike then you get the air valves for a regular air ride system for a car/truck and lastly you can use a air compressor for a air shifter or u can purchase the "air ride motorcycle compressor" off of ebay. much cheaper than buying a kit.  Ive got more into mine tho because of custom made stuff and chrome and a HUGE air compressor but its all for different reasons

On your air cylinder is it a dual type air on top and bottom i know some of the first ones that came out  was kinda wild to try to ride like to talk with you on the phone if you have time sometime thanks Dave

yes i have the capability to have air on both sides however i will only be pushing air on the raising  side of the system and allowing gravity for the drop portion.  The reason for this is because by using air for the drop you are going to slam the bike down too quickly.  Also by having a dual chamber system with pressurized air on both sides of the piston you are making an extremely hard ride.  By having pressurized air only on one side and ambient air on the other you allow the bike to "squat" under acceleration like a standard shock.  I did lots of research on this before i did all of it and also had a top of the line auto/truck air suspension builder/fabricator consult with me on it.

having a air pocket on top and bottom allows for pre-load adjustment.. i can control how high/low i want to ride and i can control how stiff/soft i wanna ride at any height...i have had mine on for about 6 months and i really like it. but all to their own.

I purchased a kit from Wankel parts I think it was around $550? But I have seen the same system for as little as $350 and as high as $850!

I rhino lined mine....along with the undertail it was $65 and looks sweet!
