D&D pipes ROCK!
« on: November 02, 2003, 08:32:00 PM »
Really, you guys don't like my pipes? These things ROCK! Sweetest sound I've heard. Yes, a bit on the loud side - but the deepest, fullest, and throatiest. And acording to David Rash, increase Dyno HP from 166 stock to 187 with remap and is 20 lbs lighter.

But most importantly, D&D is the only exhaust that is available entirely in black satin from header to tip. So it is perfect for a 40th anni-Busa complete black-out look.

Wow, you will get flamed for this post unless you are being fecicious.

I love the sound of them too, and i think they also look great.

But 21 horsepower and saving 20 pounds.....Yeah right!

I am running them.
I love the way they look and sound But when it comes to performance they simply SUCK!!
The only reason I am running them is because The full carbon fiber system cost me $350 to my door
I got tired of tiptoeing my way through life just to reach death safely. So I bought a Busa!!!

D&D  WON MY PLACE AS THE LOWEST HP PIPES YOU CAN BUY
NONE EVER MADE OVER 160 HP ON MY DYNO
MATTER A FACT SEVERAL MADE IN THE 140 HP RANGE

I am still running stock pipes because I like the quieness since the bike is stock anyway. I would like the better sound, but only if it was backed up by a significant power increase, such as from a built motor or a turbo. I plan to turbo mine as soon as I can afford it. I have read everything on pipes on this board and other links as well over the past couple years as pertains to the Busa, and the general opinion which was backed up in many many cases by dyo charts from lots of different places and by rider's experience is that the D&D pipes were the most affordable and had some of the nicest and loudest sound but made less power than any others.

busa vs. r1 - glad you're happy with your new pipe but that dyno sheet IS fabricated.  I'll take another $1K on that.

The only thing I think when I see a D&D is... pure poser.

Do yourself a favor and go to a party store... buy the 10pack of noisemakers for $1.99.   Does the same thing as a D&D.

this topic has already been discussed. D&D are scraping the bottom of the performance barrel.(and coming up empty)
You get what you pay for.
previously owned a 01 blk/gry Busa little of this little of that...oh yeah and a ghetto turbo 320horse/200ft.lb. 8.92@169
Bikeless....for now.

Ok, so maybe the exhaust is not fast. But they look and sound great to me. My bike is way more fun to ride now!

Besides, the bike is way too fast for me as it is - I admit "I'm not worthy".

Well put sir.  All that matters is that YOU are happy with it.  Just don't go quoting D&D's "advertised" HP gain, it is false.

And the "I'm not worthy" - yes you are.  Go have fun.

Bring your 1K down the road to my shop and I will take you money after running on a dyno and showing you that you where lied to.

The pipe is a POS and they finally changed the flag due to Texans bitching at the company.

The most important thing is that you are happy with the pipes and are having fun! As long as you know what their capabilities are and  you are enjoying them, great! If I wanted a good sound and taking my poor financial status into account, and if I could not find any cheap used ones, I would buy a pair of D&D bolt ons. I wouldn't have to remap or get a Power Commander.

WOW!

You guys are harsh. I didn't realize that people take this type of hobby so seriously. I have never done mods to a bike before and figured I'd just have a little fun with some pipes and an undertail.

I'd better not tell you guys what undertail I have.

You have to post some pics.  I bet she looks great with the blacked out pipes.

You're still a newbie.  You gotta expect a little harsh treatment every now and then

Guys around here take their HP's very seriously and are proud of every pony they can squeeze out.

Take it as a lesson learned; you can trust the guys here before you trust the manufacturer about their own product. Many have been there and done that.  Now for your personal preferences and taste in add-ons, stay with what suits your taste buds.  You'll like the bike that much better when it’s your Busa instead of just like the one in the picture from the board.

And do tell, what tail did you get?

Yeah what he said, post some pictures ! ! !

Price does play a major part in a pipe purchase,
it is just a bunch of bent tubing we paid for.

However some tuners do build better pipes,
and believe me, we pay for it one way or another.

My busa has a Yoshi,
my 12r has a muzzy,
my mille has an akro,
my mv has the 'factory' arrow performance pipes,

My 99 Ducati 900SS has a lid less airbox-
a CF vented dry clutch cover-
the usual Duc noises-

Plus some Dumb & Dumber slip ons. When the duc is at idle, I can't hear any of the other bikes running. The louD & louDer pipes bother some harley guys.

I was NOT expected ANY HP gains, I wanted the LOUDEST, MOST OBNOXIOUS, LOUDEST pipes made, I am quite happy with them. (some guys even 'core' D&D pipes-OUCH!)

D&D's sound like a Pinto with a blown head gasket.
Only the "bling-blingers" have them around here.  They like the chrome look to go with all the other shiny stuff they get.  And they all have pussy strips a mile wide on their tires.

i have been following this website for years and have never posted, only read the posts and replys. but i feel i have to add my 2 cents on this topic.i have every mod on my busa you can do (without engine work, nitros or turbo)and i have had several pipes on it including yosh tri and brock hindle. the d&d full 4 into 1 with their new silver vein can is the best pipe i have had. for one thing, d&d pipes are not cheap. i paid 775.00 and they are normally 800.00. i also removed all the packing and baffles then put it on a dyno at powersports in tampa. the 03 had 154 hp stock and i got it up to 167 hp(pc3r, airbox mod, pair removal)that rating was identical to the yosh. the hindle made 169.5 but had packing for better back pressure and looked cheesy with that logo and sounded like shit.i do not know what you guys have against d&d pipes but they are well made.nise chrome job and that silver vein can is one of a kind and looks super with my blk/gray 03. i also had d&d on my road warrior and it looked and sounded super also. bottom line is get the pipe you like for sound and looks. forget horsepower. with identical engine mods, all the pipes add between 8 and 15 hp tops.

Yeah, what he said

But seriously, I am going to post a bunch of pictures for you dudes. I just sent all of the metal bits to be powder coated. Should be done next week. By then, my undertail will be delivered and round #1 of mods will be done (the cosmetic stuff). I'll bolt it all on and shoot the pics.

(Maybe this winter) I'll move onto the motor. After its broken-in,maybe a turbo or supercharger with head work and cams.

The unvailing of the cosmetic mods will be next week with tons of pics, including the D&D's of course.
