Well, I currently have an '03 gsxr1000 as a stablemate for the busa. If the '04 R1 proves to be a significantly better machine, then it will be sharing the garage with the busa.

I say if you want a liter bike the GSXR1 has proven itself over and over and over!
The R1 has proven over the years to have trans problems, unstableness at high speeds, and now finally a real lookin fuel injection system!
Get a load of the system they used last year!
Now from some of the stories Im hearing, its still gonna suck hind tit on the GSXR1!
After goin to Brainerd International Raceway this year, and listenin to the Yamaha guys whine piss and moan about how shitty they are, I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot stick!
*I used to be a Yamaha guy*
Lets just say, don't believe the horsepower # they put out!
If Suzuki would have posted the # the GSXR has with ram-air included, the number would be right there!
Yamaha has been cheatin people for long enough!
Example, Raptor 660, as compared to Z400 quad.
Subtract 400 from 660 you get 260 less cc's, and the Raptor has 5 valves per cylinder, and two carbs, count-em two, and yet the Z400 makes the Raptor look silly if you ride with them!
I should know I have two friends that Raptors and I have a Z.
Don't compare the new 450, thats a factory race machine, not in the same class, thats fast, but not a machine for trail whatsoever.
I think Yamaha needs to wake up, quit livin in the past, and give people a more reliable machine for what they cost.
Lets sum it up and just say they fricken break too much!!
Ohh and Yamahas parts mark-up is 100%! Suzuki isn't half that!
Last but not Least, when Yamaha has a continued problem, like all early V-max Ventures had weak second gear, and nearly all failed within 20K, and this went on for almost 10years of production.
Yamaha published an updated gear-kit in their service manuals, but wouldn't you think they would offer the owners some kinda compensation, Parts at least?
Hell Suzuki even payed for the Vinson ATVs, when shifting from forward to reverse, they would sometimes be sticky, but still would shift, they paid to replace ALL the gears and shifter!! $1200.00 in repairs!
Thats the main reason I would never buy another Yamaha!
 Sorry for the long post!
Follow the crowd and go no where.

That's pretty quick but i'll bet a similarly set up Busa will eat it and so would a G1K...

The R1 is an inline 4.  Get a v-twin for a completely different bike.

http://www.bruinsbusinesssolutions.com/mille

I have the Busa cuz it's the king of the road (including cages).

I have the Mille cuz it's one of the best handling bikes out there and its a v-twin.  Took me about 3 month to figure out how to ride it right.  The engine is completely different than the inline 4.  Now it's very fun and in a completely different sort of way.

You can pick up an used Mille R for under $10k.
Speed safely!

If the 2004 R1 is all it's cracked-up to be, it's going to be one heck of a bike. I can't wait for the bike show to hit Chicago so I can go sit on one and see how it feels. The thing looks great and the power numbers they're quoting are unbelievable!

Fast
Holy Crap, I have to sell this ZX-12R!!
