HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO CHANGE SWINGARMS?
« on: November 17, 2003, 12:13:00 AM »
I WANT AN ADJUSTABLE CHROME SWINGARM. I'M A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC BY TRADE, SO I HAVE MOST COMMON TOOLS AND SKILLS. DO I NEED TO PURCHASE ANYTHING SPECIAL. WHAT DO YOU DO TO SUPPORT THE REAR OF THE BIKE? ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.

THANKS

Not difficult at all.  The only special tool needed is the socket for the swingarm pivot nut.  I got lucky and my local shop let me borrow theirs. I believe Motorhead sells a set of sockets.

As for supporting the bike, I used a motorcycle/ATV jack.  I had my exhaust off the bike at that time.  Makes life a bit easier if you have a service manual.  More so for the re-install, but helps to see what needs to come off and in what order.

If your arm doesn't have bearings and you don't want to buy any special tools, have a shop press them in for you.

I use the EazyRizer in my polishing shop and it works well.
